These are the different combinations when breeding Blue, Black, and Splash (BBS) birds:
Blue x Blue = 25% black, 50% blue, 25% splash
Blue x Black = 50% black, 50% blue
Blue x Splash = 50% blue, 50% splash
Splash x Black = 100% blue
Black x Black 100% black
Splash x Splash = 100% splash
I have a splash Silkie. Let me go see if I can find a picture of him.
Sure ... that's a great idea. Post under Breeds, Genetics, and Showing, I would say.
Hatched this weekend
22 Delawares
3 RIR
4 Lavender Ameraucanas
1 tiny Cochin
3 B/B/S Orps
3 Silkies
My broody Silkie hatched out 1 herself! She and her sister were sitting on eggs. One day the sister got up to go eat and poo. While standing near the doorway of their little coop, a hawk...
I think the average is around 20 weeks. I had some hatchery stock that started at 16 weeks, and I have some non-hatchery that are now 19 weeks that have not started.
Aaawwwww, I love your story! That is such a coincidence, because I have a Boots, too! AND, for the same reason as you! Mine is a Black Copper Marans girl.
Well, I do love those Silkies .... they are just the sweetest things. They are about my favorite, "little," chicken. My other favorites are the big guys ... I like those Sussex! Do you have Black Copper Marans there? I love those dark eggs. I like the pretty green and blue eggs from the Easter...
Right now I have over 200, but less than 300 ..... I think!
I am growing out the ones I want to become breeders. Then, I will only keep 2 roos and 8 hens, of each breed. I have my breeder pens done, but still have to finish the fencing for the runs. I have 10 of those.
After I have decided...
WOW, have they ever grown! I love the pictures! Simply amazing!
You have done such a great job .... going from a staggered hatch in a single incubator, to this! It is fabulous!
