1kluckychik, thanks for your response. Chicks would be fine, but Skipperville is too far for me to drive, unfortunately. :-)

Wisher1000, I have two hens and a rooster from that hen. I am trying to think back -- I think you gave me one or two hens and I had a broody hen at the time maybe, put some eggs under her.

    ALABAMA!!

I just read the latest from James Spann; "The new GFS model is coming in colder for early next week. We might have a hard time getting out of the teens Monday, followed by a low near 5 degrees at daybreak Wednesday, if the model is correct. " I've never had to deal with these temps since I've...

    ALABAMA!!

I think that's very wise. About a week ago one of my chicks was separated from the mother hen and couldn't get back to her. I reached down to pick her up and put her back with the hen when the hen flew at me full bore, cutting my face slightly, missing my eye by about 1/4" inch. Lesson...

I have two Australorp roos that I'd love to get rid of, too. Mine seem so rough with the hens, but these are my first chickens so I don't know what's normal. On the other hand, they are protective of the hens, one especially.

My chickens have an open air coop. It was supposed to be their run with a little rolling coop attached, but they prefer roosting in the run. I have a little rolling coop attached which they use for laying eggs. Please excuse this junky photo of taken it before it was completely finished.

    ALABAMA!!

I thought I had it bad, with 2 roosters and 5 hens. I have the roosters separated right now. They were just too rough on the hens. If I was practical, I would get rid of one or both of them.
