    ALABAMA!!

In Alabama, chickens do not need any added heat once they have their feathers, even in the winter. They do however need plenty of ventilation, both summer and winter.

I have two roosters to give to someone that needs them. One is a RIR and the other is an Americana. Both are about one and a half years old, (hatched in May of 2017). Send me a message if you need one or both of these roosters. I live in southern Jefferson Co., between Helena and Tannehill State...

[ Chickens are not that far removed from their wild cousins and don't need to be coddled as much as some people think ] I agree, keeping chickens warm is actually bad for them.

    ALABAMA!!

Many years ago I had a rooster that became aggressive toward me. He later became aggressive toward my wife and my granddaughter. I could not change his attitude no matter what I tried, and I tried everything including the things you did. Things continued to escalate until he sent me to the...

    ALABAMA!!

It is not unusual for a raccoon to take just the head of only one bird. Dusk is prime time for raccoons. It is dark by 6:00 p.m. at my house.

    ALABAMA!!

AUChickenGal If the head was completely gone, it was probably a raccoon. The other chickens would not have eaten the skull. If it was a raccoon it will be back.

" She is about 2 1/2 - 3 years old now." Domineckers33, That is why. A hen of this age will not lay unless she has at least 13 hours of daylight. You can increase the hours of light by adding artificial light. A 40 watt bulb for about 3 hours should do the trick. I use a light operated by a...

    ALABAMA!!

I decrease the temp. 5 deg. each week until they are ready to go outside. 85 deg. would be about right for 3 week old chicks. If you give them a heat lamp and plenty of room they will find their comfort zone.

    ALABAMA!!

But I can't candle eggs! I seen absolutely nothing. I watched the video and read the posts about it. I think I was doing it right, IDK, but I will keep practicing, maybe, I will see something. After about day 14 or 15 you will not be able to see anything because the chick has filled the egg.
