I am coming! It's marked on the calendar and highlighted and underlined! LOL! I guess it is time....just hard for me to get rid of the girls I have....My mom always had retirement pens. Lol! The ladies were good bug eaters in the garden and every now and then we would get an egg from that group...
Hi! And welcome to the wonderful world of raising and keeping chickens! You will find so many wonderful people and advice on this thread and the Northern California thread! I started out like you are about almost 4 years ago! We had chickens while I was growing up but I had never raised any of...
I actually gave three roosters to that rescue - two Silkie roos and a Black Astralorp. The gal met me at Concord Feed in Concord and picked them up. She was very personable and there were two other roosters sitting in the store awaiting her arrival. I don't have her number in front of me, but...
I'm so sorry that you have to go through this.... unfortunately, I can't have cockerels, but I will certainly point anyone who is looking in your direction. I have alsways admired the photos you have posted of your Silkies. They are beautiful!
Chiqita - thank you so much for your help and kind words! They are my "clucky kids" as my boyfriend call 'em. I responded to Deb, hopefully she can spare one of her little girls and Chloe won't have to be lonely anymore!!
....
Your pics of the little fuzzy chicks have perked me up this morning. We returned home from vacation yesterday to receive bad news. My favorite little blue silkie hen passed away while we were gone. We don't know what from. My neighbor tells me she just found her, no marks, so could have been...
Sorry I don't live closer Debi!! But thru this site, I found someone who lives just 5 minutes from my house....we trade off chicken sitting duty! Maybe someone who lives nearby will step up and help out? Good Luck!! And a Chicken sitting co op sounds good!!
Didn't even think of brain swelling when it happened....glad that wasn't the case! She is an odd little chicken, but full of personality that is for certain! We are glad she made it!
Sorry - Thanks! I'm in Pleasanton. And no a pecked Silkie is no fun.... It was a complete surprise to us...I came home and went outside to check on the girls. One of the silkies was hiding under the ramp and wouldn't come out. I went in and pulled her out..in one day they had pretty much...
Hi Everyone!
It's been awhile! Glad to see some new folks joining in the fun! I have a HUGE dilemma...at least it is for me. One of my Buff Orpingtons has decided to get quite talkative. She is driving my neighbors crazy! They are okay with the daily egg song and a few squaks of excitement...
I love it! I don't have cats anymore, but I would imagine any of the heavier cardboard boxes with hinged lids would work. And I could see them perching on the edge.... mmmmm maybe I could convince my neighbor to use tidy cat next month!!! :) And you're right, the logo is bright... thanks...

Thanks for all the information! I do have a question....what is the tidy cat feeder? I don't have a lot of waste with the galvanized one I have but sometimes the food doesn't fill the bottom tray like it should and I have to shake it....not a big deal, but the girls scold me when I...
LOL! I have tried.... I think they might be too big for the Silkies? But the big girls don't like 'em either.... of course it could have been the feed. It was the Modesto Mills. I'll just have to try it and see what happens!! Based on the posts from Chiqita, you're going to be busy!!!
Hi Debbi! Okay, I get it. I'm trying to find a feed store in Paso Robles or someplace that will sell it so Aaron can pick it up on his way home!! :) I like the soy free and GMO free..... My birds won't eat pellets...they like the crumbles.... I think they are spoiled!
Hello from Pleasanton Beakaboo! It's really not in the area you specified, but might be helpful. The only place I have found that comes close is: Bay Area Hay and Feed on Greenville Rd. in Livermore. They sell some Modesto Milling products. They sell the scrath and the soy free pellets, but...
