Quote: I have a 7-month-old barnevelder rooster you can have. He is really nice. I got him as part of a pair that were supposed to be bantam barnevelders, but they are the same size as my LF barnevelder pair and lay the same size eggs as all my large fowl chickens, so go figure. He's...

Quote: Doris turned out pretty unique, didn't she? You're the only person to report back with a bird like her, I wonder what happened to cause the "mottling" effect? I'm going to PM some of the Ameraucana experts and see what they think, mind if I use your picture? Feel free! I'll see if...

Got some pics of my Blue Wheaten Ameraucana girls. This is Barbara: And this is Doris (she's the one that developed blue mottling in her feathers at about 4-5 months of age): They both started laying last week!

Quote: Yay, my BW girls from Jeremy also started laying this week. They're 27 weeks old. And the eggs are adorable! These girls are a lot older than 27 weeks. They're 33 weeks, and I was starting to wonder if they were EVER gonna actually lay an egg! They've been singing the egg song with...

Hey Jeremy, my two blue wheaten ameraucana girls that Linda hatched for me from your eggs both started laying this week... and I must say, holy smokes, those are the BLUEST chicken eggs I have ever seen! Good job.

Hey Jeremy, I still haven't gotten any great pictures of Doris yet (the blue wheaten ameraucana with mottling), but here's a better picture of her from above than the one I posted before. I'll still keep trying to get better pics.

Quote: I may actually get to go this year! I totally missed last year. If they allow alcohol and if we do make it, we could totally bring some fabulous Amador and El Dorado County wines. I know y'all have a good selection of wineries in Sonoma and Napa, but we have some pretty good wines...

Just didn't know if y'all knew my real name or not. Take some deep breaths, Cheryl... hang in there! You're smart and tough... you can handle it!

hehehe no worries, Cheryl. It's all good. (BTW, I'm Jerrilynn... rhymes with Marilyn or Carolyn but starts with a J. It is not pronounced Jerry-Lynn as so many people try to say. I think my mom was braindead, too, when she filled out my birth certificate LOL).

The sister does not look like that AT ALL. In fact, until about 6 weeks ago, I couldn't tell Doris and Barbara apart. The blue mottling just showed up around the middle of August out of nowhere! None of Linda's chickens look like this, either. She's the only one with the blue mottling...

Hey Jeremy, This isn't my best pic (kinda blurry--she moved right when I was snapping the picture, plus I have a lower quality camera phone), but this is one of the blue/wheaten ameraucana offspring Linda gave me as a week-old chick. She gave me 2. This one is Doris, and the other one is...

Quote: I have an EE cockerel that could be his twin brother! And he is just the sweetest little guy, jumps up onto our shoulders and rests himself (he likes DH's shoulders better--mine are a little narrow & hard to balance on LOL). We named him ... Gregory "Peck".

Quote: I completely agree! I don't understand how people just buy the same looking chickens, even if it is for egg production! Ditto! Double Ditto. I like the variety in our chickenyard. We have cuckoo marans, blue wheaten ameraucanas, white faced black Spanish, a blue marans cross, a...

Quote: Losing chickens to a raccoon can leave you a little on the worried side for sure! It sounds like you've shored up the tractor nice and solid, though. I'm sure things will be fine now. But relax a little... too much worry gives ya worry lines and high blood pressure! Keep us posted...

Quote: $22 each? ETA: Wheaten is spelt with an "e", not an "o". Spelt is a grain (related to wheat). I would imagine wheaten is spelled with an e, not an o. I mean, ya know, since we're correcting spelling here. LOL! (Ducks and runs from Jeremy... laughing all the way....

Hi everyone! This may be a cross-post to some, as I'll also be posting it in the Northern California, Southern California, Central California and Sierra Foothills threads. We're planning another BYC get-together at the state fair this year on Sunday, July 31, at the Fur & Feathers exhibit...
