I have a 2 month-old rooster that needs rehoming also if anyone is able to take him. He is a black Orpington with a few red feathers (mixed with Partridge). He has grown a lot since these pics; should be very large.
Not that I know of but I would go. I have heard there used to be a NorCal meet up somewhere in the central valley but the woman who used to do it has not had it for a few years.
I can't remember the name of her neighborhood but it is near that pizza place called Nonno's; have you heard of that place? I want to say Redwood something?
:welcome Wish I could take your cockerel but I have 7 chicks right now & I think 4 of them are boys (at least!) so I am in the same situation. I have had good luck using craigslist to rehome roosters. Good luck!
I am in Santa Clara, btw, so not too far from you. :)
Welcome! That's good to know that your labs get along with the hens. We are thinking of getting a dog next year & my kids love labs but I was afraid they would chase the chickens. Did you do anything to train them to leave the chickens alone?
I have 2 Bielefelder cockerels that need homes but I am keeping them around a bit longer. I want their sister to get more integrated with the rest of the flock before I take her brothers away. (She is really timid). Will let you know when I am ready to give them up though. They are gorgeous...
I go to this vet:

The guy vet whose name I forget has chickens himself. They are pretty pricey but I guess that is the same with all vets.
My Bielefelder hatch didn't go that well; only got 3 chicks out of 12 eggs, and 2 of them are male. Oh well, at least I got one pullet to keep. I guess it just means I have to hatch again in the Fall. :-) Definitely want to get some more bantam Orps in the future....
One of my splash hens suddenly dropped dead last week with no warning. Very sad. :-( The black one is broody right now & will hopefully be hatching Bielefelders next week. Would love some more bantam Orps, though, they are my favorites. Maybe in the Fall I will get some more....I am ready for...
You could try the Northern California board; I think a few people are hatching there right now. I am hatching Bielefelders next week but I plan on keeping the pullets.
No advice really but have a look around the site; there is so much information here. Good luck; you will love having chickens! Tell your wife how much better the eggs taste from your own hens!
