    Silkie thread!

Not sure where you are at in Illinois, but there are several breeders in Indiana that have white and buff chicks. Check out the Indiana thread or the member's list for names and locations. :) I have silkies in northern Indiana that were just fine this past winter when the temps were hardly ever...

    Silkie thread!

I can see the similarities! What color/pattern would you say Jaffa is? I hadn't ever seen a silkie with buff coloring and black/green tail feathers. So wild looking! Wishing you luck! Isn't that the cutest? I know they will outgrow it but so cute for chicks. Hoping I can get some pics soon.

    Silkie thread!

3rd week photos are done! If you compare to the photos in my previous post, you may notice 2 who look totally different. Molly is turning buff and a silkie expert on the Silkie thread says she thinks she'll be porcelain. Also Martha is turning grey partridge, she started out as a yellow chick...

Thank you so much! I looked up adult pics of porcelains and I am sure you are spot on. I can't wait for her to get more feathers in. (really hoping she's a pullet!)

Huffington Post has a great article called We Just Found Your New Pet: It's a Chicken. And it features all images of silkies! This is so neat that people are getting into chickens, especially silkies. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/04/25/silkie-chicken_n_5200292.html

    Silkie thread!

Does anyone know what color this chick is? Molly started out looking like a regular yellow chick but in the last week she is getting a ton of buff/reddish coloring along with white and blue/grey. She didn't have the classic chipmunk pattern a partridge silkie would have so I am not sure what to...

    Silkie thread!

That is really neat you train them like this. When mine go from brooder to outside pen, I teach them to go home by walking behind them and saying "go home!". They usually catch on after a few days and then I can just say go home and they get inside their run/coop. Very cool to think I can train...

Any one of these would be perfect for the BYC calendar contest and cover of Backyard Poultry Magazine! Great photographs!

I just love your setup and all the chickens free ranging! This is my idea of the perfect farm house one day with silkies and LF roaming freely.

    Silkie thread!

Thank you! Rita is a Mille Fleur, I thought that they hold their wings really low like that. I have tried finding a guide for what the standard but haven't found it online yet. Here's a pic of her parents.

    Silkie thread!

Second week photos are done! Can't believe the changes in the past week. The guinea and MF are getting a lot larger and have more feathers than the silkies. My cat decided he wanted in on the photo shoot yesterday and kept sitting on the laptop/stage. LOL Here are the two previous...

    Silkie thread!

Catching up on the thread, not sure if anyone already answered you about this. Please check out the INDIANA BYC'ers HERE! thread. They are really friendly and many people have silkies. You can also check out this google doc, which the members maintain. It lists out all the Indiana BYC folks...

    Silkie thread!

It was almost 100 degrees here a couple nights ago and decided to take the chicks outside for a few minutes. Also got a video of the older chickens greeting the littles. Was really funny!

    Silkie thread!

My Silkie chickens' toes are off to the side like that. The last 2 just kinda hang there, they don't seem to use them much when walking.

    Silkie thread!

Got some silkie eggs from bradselig and had them hatch in time for our family reunion! I named them all after people from Beatles songs. My cousin also gave me a guinea and a MF in case anyone is wondering why Vera and Rita don't look like silkies. LOL Love these little fluff balls.
