Okay, you guys are helping me greatly in sorting out my hatch from this weekend. I had some chipmunk babies hatch from my new black pen and I was totally befuddled! I have also tried to hobble them without success...so terribly sad, but I'm a bit relieved to hear that I'm not the only one having trouble getting those teeny legs splinted and the chick still able to mobilize. I did have success with putting one in a cut off paper cup, legs properly placed and...

I agree! Thank you so much to all of the experts for sharing your advice, stories, pictures and opinions for us "newly hatched" to absorb like sponges! I have only had silkies for 2 years and was a bit intimidated about asking for opinions about my birds or a dumb question, but no one has ever...

WOW! I have so much to catch up on after being gone for a week!!! In the meantime...I have this roo that was hatched out in mid-May who has some serious silver leakage in his hackles. Just a very slight peppering everywhere else. I was thinking, just for fun, to put him in with my black...

    Silkie thread!

I have a batch of dark blue (shoulda been black....) silkies that are approaching 4 months old. I think it was mentioned on here that leakage in the hackles is usually a sign of roo???? I have one with red leakage only on the front, one with silver peppered thruout its whole body and one with...

I use different colored zip ties after having the same experience that you had, Aoxa, with the spiral ones with my swans. With the zip ties you can put them on the youngsters, too, and just clip them off as they get bigger to replace them.
