Often a messy rose comb means heterogeneous for rose comb.

Ah, interesting, looks like a single comb on the chick... so mom must be hetero for rose comb.

I love that girl, that boy sure looks dark to me. Is your line easy to sex at hatch?

Huh... that is odd. Mine were pretty regular layers, they never stopped laying mid summer.. I would check for lice and mites etc. Also, how old? Older girls are less productive. Oh... I had Dominiques from Cackle and a couple of different breeders/breeder lines.

As in do females change shape a bit as they mature? Yes. Pullets look different than hens. Do they all tend to grow too much cushion as they mature? No.

My kids and I really like their personalities. The roosters have been a mixed bag. A few bad, some great.

I do find that interesting (and a bit of a bummer) that a nice tight comb is not connected (clearly totally different genes) from nice tight wattles. Hard to get both on the same bird, just too many points to select for!

It is harder to get a good show quality bird from a hatchery, but not impossible. My old dom rooster is from a hatchery and he has truly the best temperament. His SOP points aren't too bad. Bad leg color, but good feather color and pattern, excellent body form/shape but a bit too heavy. He...

Oh no... or... I do strongly think that aggressiveness should not be bred, or at least only bred carefully. But I meant that he is not a good choice in regards to stance, form, tail set, leg color, or comb.

Can't remember if you are breeding or not... or just have a backyard flock for fun. He isn't a good choice for breeding, but of course you also have to work with what you have.
