I should add I believe the barred rocks are cockerels? This beggs the question are the top 3 1/2 barred rock? Perhaps this is a rock flock with a few dom hens tossed in? The seller might truely not know the difference? I have 2 barred rocks and 9 now Dominique's and people always say they like...
These look like dom cockerels and I can't tell with the one on the bottom or I guess maybe the top one, middle cockerel for sure. If the other 3 are barred with straight combs that's likely the case yes, we have some rocks here and a couple rock dom mixes actually that just hatched I'm keeping...
I agree, (also I love Maine) we are in ny and the smaller the comb the better I agree, we keep Dominique's with rose combs, brahmas, Easter & olive eggers that all have pea combs, silkies.... Then we have orps, Sussex, barnevelders that have small straight combs, rocks & nh reds that have sort...
They're just hatchlings so they don't have their barring yet, so you agree them 2 boys & a girl? Yea the top picture was depressingly the best I could get with them all together, you can see chicks one and 2 well though I guess, I provided further photos of them for reference. They look like...
all 3 of my dom eggs are now very cute little dom chicks!
chick 1- head spot
chick one legs
chick 2 head
chick 2 legs
chick 3 head
chick 3 legs
I would love to say I totally know what gender they are but there aren't enough of them for me to say ok those are 'dark' or that's a...

thanks so much! I hatched a half dom chick earlier in the year and it's a boy :( I hope that at least one of these eggs is a boy, if it is and a quality bird, the doms get their own coop next spring! Then hopefully many many Dominique's here! Love them!
So I've ordered a few eggs and hope to hatch some Dominique's to go with the ones I have and then I will separate them out and they'll have their own coop and ideally we will be able to put more runs off the large walk in pen and they'll be able to run all around the fields safely! My favorite...
Oh that makes me feel good, I had heard that maybe from someone on here? about Cackle and deliberately bought some to add to my flock from there just before last winter and they are nice birds... Should have bought a cockerel :-/ I know what you mean about buying so many birds at once it seems...
Thanks :) good temperament is good, I've been very lucky with roosters so far and have been on the fence about getting one of these for a few years now, might almost be time to just go for it. Where do you all recommend one purchase a dom Cockerel? I have 6 hens he would be well looked after.
Random question - on a scale from 1-10 how loud typically are your dom cockerels , we just have hens and I'm thinking of starting to set them up in a different way on their own over where they could do more foraging but I want them to have a rooster but I can't get another rooster until I sell...
I got a Dominique 'pullet' recently and I don't currently have any others. The comb reddened at about 2 months and then completely a few weeks later, she's still very small and has some issues with her feet but she's a nice bird... In just starting to wonder if she's a she, my rooster hates her...
