Agreed, those all appear to be single combs, it looks like you have some variety of barred rock, the wing coloration is also different you should have some noticible baring on the wings at 4 weeks.

Virginia is getting harder to tell from the others. I usually just call her out of the flock. She still has a small white mark behind the eye. Here are some pics from our morning visit.

Do you think that is what has happened by taking them out of the homestead? I'm sure the brood rates would have been much higher fo them to be so common in the day. Do you have any Cackle Hatchery stock? If so how do they fare in you studies so far?
Wow, that is a huge amount of work so far, and some great information. Have you noticed or tracked any correlation in the desired traits (ranging, higher egg production, broody by 2 etc) and any of the specific stock origin? Just wondering if any of the breeders/suppliers you obtained stock...
How far are you into your project to keep the traditional aspects of the breed? Went back and re-read some of your posts, sounds fascinating and somewhat of a daunting undertaking.
Just make sure it says "active live cultures" on it. Some companies actually pasturize post fermentation. I recommend Dannon plain. Not just because I worked there for years, but because they have put more research and development into the variety of cultures than all other companies combimed. I...
