A bit off topic, but you just reminded me they did indeed use Dom feathers for pillows and beds. Now that I've actually plucked a bird using boiling water I remember the smell was awful. Do you happen to know what was done to the feathers to get the smell out? Strange question, I know, but I...

I've never had a single Dom go broody either and I've had 6 total, but I know they are supposed to be an average broody breed. My English Orps and Ameraucanas on the other hand are determined broodys. It's a huge pain BC it's never when you need them to be. :idunno

I'm not sure where you are located but the Dominique Club of America has a list on it website of affiliated breeders nationwide. Last I checked it was $10 a year to join. You can start your 1st gen breeding program and work some better stock in from your area in your 2nd gen when you know...

Hi folks. A new chicken farmer here. I have 5 breeds (so far), and Doms are my favs. This fellow was a Meyer mistake- I ordered all pullets- but I'm glad he lost his way. He is 21 weeks old, and I'm looking for some hard critiqueing as to the standard, primarily do start developing my "eye" for...

Just got a new phone so I'm posting all the photos I couldn't before! A couple of my Dom's. I've got 1 good body and 1 good comb and 2 good personalities. I'd love to breed these some day if I ever come across a good rooster that's not aggressive, but for now I'm focusing on Ameraucanas. I...

Thanks, I'm currently a member of the Dominique Club. The closest I've found is an hour north of Bowling Green which is about 2 hours away from where we live. I'm waiting it out for locals, or when we travel next. We have vacationed in Asheville and there are some out that way.

Beetlejuice and Loretta and the rest of their flock of Ameraucanas and a Jubilee Orpington. I'd love to have a Dom rooster someday, because they are such exceptional girls in behavior, (they do have pretty u-shaped backs which you can't tell from the photos and Loretta has a nice comb with...

All Dominiques have rose combs. All barred rocks have straight combs. Male or female. Sex - links may be either as they are a cross of two breeds.

The straight comb indicates a barred rock or sex-linked bird. Dominiques have rose combs. unfortunately, with a comb that big at this age-it is most likely male.
