Here's a much better picture of actual colors. The top is the color I get from all four of my SFHs (a cream), the bottom is the average color of my Doms eggs (that particular hen almost always spots up her eggs) and the blushy egg is the occasional pink Dom egg we get.
I have Doms and Swedish Flower Hens. The very lightest eggs are my Swedes, the darker are the Doms... But I also get this pink egg laid by one of my Doms that is very pretty!
Thank you! Both of my kiddos are pretty obsessed with the chickens and the chickens tolerate so much from them, lol. Bless their little chicky hearts! I'm so glad we started with such a sweet breed.
Omg, I hope not! I'll get crazy impatient by then, lol. I've always read that first-time pullets will start laying when they're bodies are ready no matter the season and that it won't be until their second+ years that you'll see the winter time periods of slow production...
Yaay! My girls are still only 13-14 weeks so I still have a little wait, but I'm SO excited for eggs.
Since we're on the topic, what week has everyone gotten their first egg?
I have 5 ten week old cockerels that I'd love to find great homes for! Too sweet for the stew pot :( Great looking guys and SO friendly. Hand raised since hatching!
Fort Smith, AR area. I'll find the buy/sell/giveaway threads when I get home but wanted to post here first. :)
Haha, that's funny. At least one of my guys has started and the first few times we heard him we looked around for something dying. He's no American Idol :P
I have an overwhelming number of cockerels out of my straight run of 10 from spring. A few are starting to get pecky with my hand when I reach for them even though they get very regular cuddles from us... But it's never major and I believe it has a lot to do with how many they are competing with...
Is there anyone near the Fort Smith, AR area with chicks available? I ended up with a whopping 3 pullets out of my last straight run and would really like more before it starts cooling down! I'll drive a reasonable distance. Thanks!
I'm not super experienced by any means, but I'd say it's a Dom pullet before I'd venture into a mixed cockerel... I'm curious to know what about it is screaming definite cockerel to any more experienced keepers.
Thanks, everyone! I've been sure C is a cockerel and B is a pullet, but A is the sweetest little thing and I have a couple like it who fall into some grey area of looking 50/50 to me so it's super confusing!
