    Dominique Thread!

So I have a question. I got Dominique hatching eggs, from a farm that only has Dominiques. 6LF and 6Bantam. One LF and one bantam (so two of the 12 eggs) hatched with straight combs. Does this mean that: a) somewhere in the lineage of the farm I got the eggs from, that there is barred rock and I...

Yes - she did hatch the LFs and bantams at the same time - and they all hatched out within a two-three day window. She's been super attentive, and still very calm around me (not protective of me reaching in an picking up and playing with a chick or two). She puffs up like a huge ball if any...

I had the eggs shipped as I am in California! The eggs were packaged really well, and yes, I was surprised by the variety of egg colors as well when I opened the packaging. My previous doms from Meyer, their eggs were all a creamy pinky brown, but the Nantahala eggs were various shades...a tad...

    Dominique Thread!

Just thought I'd share. I ordered hatching eggs from Nantahala Farms (half are Doms, half are bantam Doms), and they all hatched!!! Just a few picts of mom (Khaan) getting overwhelmed :) ' Previously, I had three Doms, and they were all favorites because of their personalities. All were...

Why Thank you @lazy gardener ! The doms are my favorite of the bunch - and my one dom from my previous flock (RIP) was my absolute favorite as well. This year's do have much darker legs, and my previous dom (also from Meyer) had almost white legs. They've all had the best personalities though :)

Two Doms - They are both from Meyer Hatchery's April 15th hatch. They all free range and have free access to an organic feed, watermelon rinds, and either cracked 9-grain, oats or cooked rice.. - June 15th - May 21st - May 21st, the Americana was from the same hatch date and...

super cute! I always wondered about how moms can be completely oblivious that their chicks look totally different from them and are totally okay with it :)

    Dominique Thread!

Do Dom's generally go through a summer molt? Phineas (my one-eyes dominique) went through a partial molt in the fall, and lately she's been loosing a lot of feathers...it does seem to be working it's way from her head to the tail...and all things would point to a partial molt, but since she just...

That is awesome! I always like to think there's something more complex going on in her (and the chicken in your avatar's) brain. My other chickens don't think like that for some reason...make me love this chicken even more :)

I actually thought the Dom in your avatar was super cute and looks awesome :) Then again, I'm the exact opposite of an expert. Your Dom just looks like mine, and that just makes me think happy thoughts about my Dom, Phineas :)

    Dominique Thread!

Thank you for the explanation on the whitish legs. My dominique was actually one a mystery pack of 15 brown egg-laying birds that were sent from Meyer Hatchery. Everything else about the bird seems Dominique, but the legs are now (1.5 years in) a very faint yellow...closer to white than yellow...

So my Dominique (I think) has the barred coloring and rose comb, but her feet/legs are much closer to white than yellow. Her beak is white/cream and black.. can Dominiques be whitish?
