I totally agree, especially if you think about how selling a dozen eggs directly to the consumer will get you maybe $5 per dozen. The 30 doz per week means you can make maximum $150 per week (unless of course you can reliably get more per). If you were raising a production breed specifically for...
I'm about an hour south of you in West Palm. Actually will be driving through on my way north this week. I have some 2 week old chicks for sale, Barred Plymouth Rocks, and Brahma/Orpington mixes.
I recommend learning to process...unless they are a rare breed (and even then it is tough to sell them), it's usually more trouble than it's worth to try and rehome imo. If you give them away for free (unless you know the person) you never really know what their fate will be. At least processing...
Yes actually, if the sneezing is caused by a fungal infection, misting the bird with Oxine solution will help clear it up. Oxine can be used in either activated or inactivated form, most things you read will say do not use the activated form if the birds are in the area, that the inactivated...
Oxine is probably the best thing to use with poultry. Really safe and kills just about everything. 100x more effective than bleach and can be misted on everything including the birds.
I'm sorry, but you are mistaken. Chickens to do not catch what we would consider "the common cold". There are many things that could cause upper respiratory symptoms, coryza, CRD, mycoplasma, infectious bronchitis, fungal infections, etc. These are serious and most (except fungal) cause them to...
I hope those of you with sneezing birds are not selling chicks, hatching eggs, or started birds. This could be something infectious and you could inadvertently spread it to other people's flocks if you let anything leave yours without knowing for sure.
Where did you hear this? I do not think chickens can get colds, if they have upper respiratory symptoms it is usually something infectious and unfortunately quite serious. People usually do not take the time or effort to get a definitive diagnosis (which usually requires doing a culture) so when...
It does get easier. The hardest part is finding the time to do the processing. If you don't have a helper, or a plucker, or have trouble getting the scald temp exactly right it can be fairly time consuming.
Hey everyone, I'm selling my SFH flock, just have too many breeds and need to downsize a bit. I have three cockerels and two pullets that are about 6 months old, and three pullet chicks that are 2 1/2 months. I can sell them all together or in two pairs and a quad, but I won't let the pullets go...
Hey for those who may be unaware, if you want to reply to a specific post on the thread, if you use the "quote" button it will copy that post in your reply. Just makes it easier to follow who you are replying to, esp if there have been many posts since then...not sure if this function works on...
Same, I incubate everything without water and my humidity stays around 20%. Have had much better hatches since I started doing this. Humidity is way overrated!
That's an excellent hatch rate for shipped eggs. 0% is not uncommon, esp from ebay Try McPhersonFarm. I don't know if they have buttons but I know they have quail of some kind...
