If you can get a better picture of the feathering on the wings of both buffs I might be able to tell you if one might be a rooster. ;-)

Is there a secret to cracking quail eggs? I found them hard to crack when raw and hard to peel when boiled. delicious, though!

My barred rock laid her egg in the wading water tub today.

A few inches of cool wading water is essential. Some of them have to be trained to wade, though. They don't realize how great it is until you show them. (hold them in the water until they feel cool) Moist dirt for them to bathe in helps too.

I'm going to say pullet. I think a cockerel would have more comb by now. Here is a picture of mine about the same age:

Here is my passion fruit vine planted and trellised. It's been in the ground for about a week but I just got the trellis today.

After I got home today from our meeting I noticed my BR, Amy, laying in the grass. She showed all the signs of a scorpion sting. Unfortunately, the little BR that survived a Cooper's hawk did not survive the scorpion.

I met a lot of great AZ BYC peeps today! Thanks @Gallo del Cielo for the vines. They are mostly all distributed now, just a couple more to go. I also was able to get a few globe mallow seeds from the seed box to plant in my tortoise enclosure! @Sill , my daughter wants quail now! lol
