HaHaHaHaHa! All chickens are not alike. Mine eat Styrofoam. Every bit they can get their beaks on. Not good for them, but didn't seem to cause long-term harm either.
Selling eggs in Arizona is legal if you register (free) and follow certain rules. Here they are, unless they've changed in the last couple of years:

Use a very low wattage heat lamp, not the horrid 250 watt things they try to sell you at most feed stores. You can get low wattage heat lamps in the reptile section of large pet stores. PetSmart carries them. Make sure the chicks have plenty of room to get away from the heat.

Not a funny place, but an unexpected result. Found an egg buried in the coop litter the other day. Had no idea how long it had been there, so I tossed it out back and it broke open. Turns out that buried egg was developed almost to the hatch point. The developing chick had feathers coming in...
What do you mean by "irritated rear?"
If patches of skin near his butt are bright red, he probably has mites and/or lice. Treat for those even if you don't see bugs. Roosters tend to get mites and lice before the hens do. Sometimes the hens never get them, even when they are in with the...
I have had laying hens chest bump each other. You can't always rely on that behavior.
Edited to add: if it's chest-bumping a rooster the odds are it's a rooster.
One of the old-time poultry guys told me to use scarlet red oil for scaly leg mites. It helped. It comes in a spray can labeled "Red-Kote." Dr. Naylor may be the brand. It leaves a red coating on their legs. He said to re-spray when the red wears off. Don't know if it will help you or not. With...
In my experience, broodies don't usually die on the nest. Even in summer in southern Arizona. A broody will get up a couple of times a day to eat and drink and poop, then get back on the nest. They usually know what they need to do/eat/drink without any interference from us. Hand feeding them...
I have 43 chickens that need to find new homes. All of them are supposed to be black javas but they clearly have other black breeds mixed into their genetic background (primarily australorp.) They are:
4 roosters ages 1-3;
28 hens ages 1-4;
10 birds that are 12 weeks old, of which at least 5...
I've been having trouble keeping up with chicken care. Plus I will be traveling a lot over the next couple of years and the neighbor who takes care of my place while I'm gone is having health issues. He can't handle the chickens any more. So I have to find new homes for them fairly quickly and I...
Mr. Mighty is doing well. Thanks for asking!
Unfortunately I have to find new homes for all of my chickens, so if anyone is interested please let me know. They are all large fowl. I mixed two lines of black javas and these resulting birds do not look purebred. They look like they have...
I only use misters when the temps are over 115 degrees. And then I only use them for a couple of hours a day. In my opinion they cause more problems than they solve. Last summer I used the misters for 3 or 4 afternoons total.
This is one reason I go easy on soaking down the runs. The added moisture seems to foster bumblefoot in my flock.
Lowering your roost height and having soft bedding for them to land in when they jump down may also help. If they are jumping down onto a hard floor (or hard-packed dirt) they can...
