I put bait in a PVC tube, so the chickens can't get to it, I use the green squares ( I forget the name). Dead mouse in the yard today. Hens did not peck it, I put it in the trash!
Not very edible. I got some nice chick seed from TSC that I planted and it is mostly clover. I had to keep them off of ti last year while it got started, but now the ducks love it and have not killed it. Chickens get grass.
I like multipule food and water dishes, because sometimes the dominant bird will guard the food and/or water. Widely separated food and water stations prevent this problem, and keep them from running out too.
The raw pack method mentioned here is what I have done with duck breast meat in the past. I pressure cook the chicken I am canning, and de-bone it. I don't want to waste jar space for bones. I cook it all the way, it is falling off the bone. Then, pack it in the pint wide mouth jar and cover...
