I have an Australorp doing that. I have to say haven't had a frozen egg this winter. She hogs the prime nest so everyone climbs on her and lays their eggs. She scoops them up and sit on them. Sure made my gathering of eggs easy not having to go out and gather every 2 hours worring about them...

I don't see it as a drawback. I see it as dinner calling. I can't have roosters either.

I know there are people on here that sell eggs to hatch. You might try doing a shout out and see if they have a better price on their eggs.

I do believe you have to wait for her to go broody. She won't sit unless she is. So, either way you decide you have to wait for her to tell you when. I personally would do eggs. They are less likely to be rejected. I would place her in the coop in a floor nest so later there isn't a problem...

I have been feeding them back each month I take everything and boil them off.I just do a fast hard boil and then smash them with my hand as I pop them into the icecream bucket for take out. ( icecream tubs are awesome) I don't bother peeling them the ladies pick through and eat what they want...

Mine sells pet and meat rabbits plus all the livestock birds. I would call them before going not all are equal. I stopped at one when I was in vandallia Il. and found they don't do rabbits but did do rare chickens breeds. The one next to me only deal in the common breeds.

I just picked up layer pellet at rural king for 11.99 a 50lb bag. It went up a dollar. I would feed them the chicken feed. They are always trying to steal it anyways lol.
