Any ideas on how to make my ducks look "prettier"? And how long before they get done molting, sigh. They seem to prefer their mud pit (ducks duh) to the high ground or indoor area and they look bedraggled and muddy. Any ideas to speed up molting and help their appearance? Thanks
Great replies (miss the like button on facebook, lol). Not going the bra route - had a vision of multiple eggs, hmmm I'd forgot that my Mom used to use hot water bottles. Like the brick idea. Maybe I'll just have to stop getting "special" eggs and also pray my ducks go broody, sigh.
Anyone use local poultry processing near Salem? I tried Mineral Springs as heard good things but after 2 e-mails and 3 phone calls (even during calling hours) was only able to play some wide space phone tag. Planning on processing my ducks myself but if anyone has someone they recommend then I...
NOTE to self: Do not hatch cute, adorable, fluffy bantam DUCKS - how in the world am I going to tough out selling these tiny little babies. Was hoping for pure call ducks but East Indie cross eggs came first for the test batch. Soooo cute. (Sorry, just a teaser as camera will not download...
Yippee - got my first very blue egg from the lavender bantam ameracauna's I got at the salem show last year. YEAH - and thanks to all the peeps on here that let me know about that show.
Had to share - I acutally did GOOD chicken math today (a new one for me). I just gave away two aracauna roosters and she decided to keep the two silkie teenagers she was trading as I didn't "need" them. YEAH - actually DOWN two chickens, how did that happen. Must go hatch, must go hatch....
Wow, I was grumbling at my hens for not laying but I think I should be grateful for 4 or 5 eggs a day out of 16 hens after reading. Luckily the 4 ducks give me 2 a day, thank heavens for ducks in the rain, lol. Now we won't even discuss the couple of bantams my daughter owns, they are...
Two questions for ya -
1) Do you think a "new" broody serama would take chicks I hatched (since she is on non hatchable eggs) and do ok mothering??
2) Good ideas for single hatch duckling "rehoming"?
Thanks
Off topic but - curse you Starbucks for that darn Chai Eggnog Latte. I'm so good all year and just "treat" myself to fancy coffee once in a while until this time of year, AAAAHHHG! It is so yummy but I do believe since it has eggnog in it, it is just my chicken supporting duty to have it and...
Ok, note to self, DO NOT take money to chicken shows or swap or chicken math will occur Went to browse and really enjoyed looking at all the chickens at the show in Salem today. Saw Cloverleaf and DS workin' away. Then got buyers fever and brought home two bantam lavender ameracaunas (forget...
Oh, come on now, lol. I looove my little calls and enjoy them and my large ducks both. What I like is the "little" mess and space they take compared to my saxonies. Good thing they moved, right
Hey, dumb dumb question here, any way to check the last post you "read" so you don't have to go back page by page?? You guys are posting so fast I can't keep up.
I just pm'd you but that is something I was thinking of, LF ameraucanas. I loooove my black and lavender but they don't seem to me much into laying yet. One layed like a month and went broody (sheesh). I'm so conflicted - I want to hatch, I want chicks, I want color, I love beards, CLEARLY I...
Ok, so the aruacan flock I wanted eggs from got eaten by predators, then the creme legbars I was ordering from quit laying, on the risk that I will jinx another byc member.... any suggestions on pretty eggs (blue I'm wishful for) that are good layers?? Of course, now maybe I just need some good...
