Hoping one of my fellow Oregonians will know what the heck is going on.... One of my 20 week Barred Rocks has started laying... She does the weirdest thing. Before she lays her egg she starts limping when she walks. Once she lays the egg, she walks normally. Otherwise she's a healthy...
LOLOLOL.... Yeah.... about 3 minutes after I took that pic a huge nightcrawler came up and one of the orphs grabbed it and ran like the devil screaming bloody murder. They are characters!
Yeah, he likes the hogs more than the other chickens. They pick on him, but the hogs just let him stand there and eat with them and roost on their backs... That's one twisted Rooster!
For those of you who remember on this thread: Rosie, turned into Rodney..... I can't have a roo in the city.... :-( Thanks for CL and some others careful observance... Here's him from my house 2 weeks ago....
Two weeks on my friends farm, Rosie/Rodney the transvestite bird....
Thinks...
Well CL and Silkiechicken... You both were right. Rosie is a Rodney,... I was out working in the run early this morning and the he'/she heard me filling up the food... I heard a very quiet but distinct "Cocka-doodle-doo" confirmed 3 times. It was more quiet than a cluck, but I heard it...
Great idea CL. My wife and I are talking about coming up from the coast, if for nothing else than to meet some of the wonderful people on this forum. Maybe someone will want this handsome boy... We already changed his name to Rodney.... I think he's happy, seemed to grow an inch overnight...
Thanks Wendy... I'm partial to her... Dang it's a shame about Rosie the Roo.... He's a beauty. So quiet... he has the tiny peep.... Not too many chicken keepers here on the central coast... He's probably going to end up on someones dinner table. Not mine, I can't eat them after befriending...
Oh no... LOL Can't have a rooster in my city.... I was starting to think it was the other night, it was the flocks first night out in the run and coop, it was 40 out and when they got into the coop "ROSIE" got on top of all the hens and laid with it's wings out keeping them all warm. Dang...
Thanks CL.... They were are just 8 weeks and enjoying being outside so very much... They wait by the run door when they hear me and then run for the happy worm hunting grounds... it's a joy to watch them.
