I'm in Grants Pass also. Our place is neat were the Rogue and Applegate rivers merge and cold Fog gets locked in around us quite often. We will have a week where the daily high temp is 28°.
I turned on the heat lamps in the coops and found they were really only generating moisture which is...
We weren't sure until recently but Josephine will have chickens. No waterfowl since they can be carriers, we are bringing in pigeons and doves.
The last diagnosed case of AI was in February. Since heat is believed to knock it out and we have had many consecutive 100°+ days, we are...
I contacted the OR vet last week, the last case of AI was February 15. We were considering no birds at the fair here in Josephine County, since heat is supposed to knock it back and it's been scorching hot we are going ahead and I'm very comfortable with the decision.
I hear ya! 3 in one coop, 5 in another, and 2 others in other coops. It's been hot and DD has been a little slack in collecting eggs so everything got pulled today except the pyncheons eggs.
The longest setting Brahma is losing weight so she will find herself in an isolation cage if she...
I'm in Wilderville, we see them occasionally but they leave us alone so far. Friends out in Williams have had the siding ripped off their coop and all the birds killed. I've been told hot wires at the top and bottom work pretty well but can't speak from personal experience.

My girls like pine shavings, when brand new they act like they have never seen them before. Once the first brave sole ventures in all is well.
I put straw in my first coop but it gets wet and nasty, even with a covered run. The shavings dry out much better and the girls...
Thanks Tim.
I'll go by South 40 tomorrow. Grange has ducklings but they are fawn/white runners and Khakis. She really wants blue swedes.
For fair they need to be feathered out, our judge is pretty easy going with the kids, I'm the picky one. I prefer them to be old enough to feather sex.
Query from Southern Oregon, does anyone have Swedish blue ducks/ducklings?
DD is in her last year of 4-H and wants to show them. Never had duckling before and not sure if they would be ready for our fair in mid-August.
Your local OSU extension office will have contact information on clubs. Down here cost vary, clubs that do a lot of livestock tend to be more expensive, (shavings aren't cheap). The fee per project is 5.00, and I think it's 18.00 to register. The hard part is finding a club that has meeting...
