Does anyone have an assortment of purebred bantam hatching eggs for sale? Even though my usual hatchery has had chicks this time of year in the past, and say they hatch 52 weeks per year, they will not have any until February, and I'd like to get started ASAP. Mainly because I'm going insane...
Haven't had a problem in the 3 years I've had chickens. The neighbor's dogs only get loose during the day, and I reported them, so it has only happened once with each neighbor it has happened with. Only predators that come around at night are skunks (VERY rarely, about one night a year, if...
They have a lot of shade from the trees, and I keep the big coop door open day and night (don't have a problem with predators, just neighbor's dogs getting loose). I also put out ice bottles for the flock to lay against if they get hot (also do this for my rabbit).
Does anyone know if there are any blue double laced Barnevelder breeders here in Oregon?
Not looking for show quality, and I don't have enough money for shipping, so hopefully if there are any, they are close enough I can pick up (I live in Fossil; can travel between here and Bend/Redmond...
Is there anyone in Eastern Oregon interested in cockerels? Barnyard mix (mostly) bantams (most parents are not "technically" mixed breed, but are from hatcheries). Also have three RIR cockerels.
I can't really travel unless it's somewhere between here (Fossil) and Madras-Bend.
They are pretty...
If it were closer to the Portland area, no one around here would be able to attend. That's the problem with most poultry related events. All of them are too far away for me and many others in central/eastern Oregon to attend. I couldn't even make it to the poultry swap in Terrebonne this year.
One of the locals has planned a Homestead Festival for the 11th of October here in Fossil. I can't imagine too many people will be attending, since it is rather short notice. I'll still be bringing some baby chicks and some older chicks to sell.
I had two brown leghorns a couple years back. They weren't skittish at all and I didn't need a fence for them. They stayed right on the property, and wouldn't even go near the road right in front of the house.
But I also handled them quite a bit (several times nearly every day).
Wheeler County Fair starts Wednesday, also. The rodeo is Saturday and Sunday. 100th year anniversary, so free admission. I'll probably be working, though.
Pic taken with my cell phone, so poor quality, but this is a map of the fires near us updated the night of the 22nd. Our town is the square in the middle on the right, where the highways come together. The "Incident Command Center" for these fires is right here in town, which the town is a whole...
Well, Fossil is in the middle of nowhere. People really only come here for the events (ABATE, 4th of July, and the rodeo; and for Tough Mudders last year), and for rafting on the river. So yeah. But for those events, it pretty much doubles or triples the population for a few days. Tough Mudders...
The dining room and bar combined can seat a total of 90. Generally, there's only a cook, a waitress, and a bartender on duty. Weekends there's generally two of each, unless it isn't busy. We're only open from 11-9 Sunday through Wednesday, 11-10 Thursday, and 11-11 on Friday and Saturday, unless...
At least a good chunk of the firefighters are camped out here in town, it seems. About 4 catering semis just pulled in to town and headed up behind the high school. Plus like 15 other rigs that go along with the catering semis.
At least I don't have to help feed them all at the restaurant I...
The firefighters took care of the fire by Service Creek, and are now working on this one:

Can't use misters or sprinklers here, unless you have a well. We're on water restrictions, and yesterday someone ran their truck and trailer off the road (him, his dog, and his horse are okay) and started a decent size fire, so yeah...
I put ice bottles in the coop and just outside the coop on...
Is there anyone in Central/Eastern Oregon looking for a cockerel? I have a Cochin x d'Uccle mix that needs to go. He was always a good boy, but when I introduced the 10 teens to the flock, he would chase them down to attack them. He's been in solitary for at least a month (inside the coop, so he...
