I breed Black Copper Marans as well as a few other breeds :) Just set up breeding pens last night so will be starting to set eggs in a couple of weeks. I am not on BYC too much anymore but feel free to message me with any questions, I'll try to get back with you within the week. I am in...

My feelings are exactly the same, have never vaccinated against Mareks. I have been raising/breeding chickens in the Willamette Valley for almost 10 years now (several hundred a year) and have maybe lost one bird early on in all the years to Mareks. I say maybe as I never sent the bird in for...

Thank you! At this point I believe all of us breeders need to get rid of the G :) Years back, a line was imported back to the States from Germany as the New Hamps in the USA had lost the quality they once had. That was quite some time ago and most of the NH lines in the states now are a combo...

Have not been on here for a while but wanted to wish everyone a Happy Spring :) A picture I took the other day of one of my older New Hampshire Hens raising some of my beloved Delawares for me:

I am in Jefferson and breed Black Copper Marans, Delawares and New Hampshires. Most of my birds are currently in molt right now, laying is very slow and I suspect fertility in the Cocks to be pretty low with the shortened daylight hours. If you are still looking in Jan/Feb. and are interested...

I am in Jefferson (15 min from South Salem) and have lots. Let me know what age you are looking for, I breed Delawares, New Hampshires and Black Copper Marans and have many different ages from breedings beginning in Feb. of this year.

I have some Blue/Black/Splash just for fun and for the blue eggs for the egg customers. They are not one of my serious breeds, don't even know if they are to SOP :)

Those are eating eggs. But..... I have been breeding and hatching chicken eggs for over 6 years. I store the eggs in those cartons for 7 - 14 days turning them 3 times per day and have consistently 90% hatches including BCM which are supposed to be harder to hatch. Works for me, maybe not...

Here are the Ameraucana eggs. The date is marked on them with a bright purple surgical pen so it washes out the colour slightly. They look really pretty in the eating egg mixes I sell :)

I think there is a Northern California thread, maybe check there too. Does she want chicks or started birds and which breeds?

Make sure they have some chick grit or sand when adding some greens so their little crops can grind it up :)

Maybe, it was backordered one year and I panicked..... You can buy powdered form most anywhere, sulfamethazine but I always get confused about dosage and it does not mix nearly as well in the water. When sulmet appeared on the market again I ordered a gallon and have not had to treat since...

You guys are welcome! If you even think you suspect cocci, medicate! Don't second guess yourself. I was always so hesitant as I do not believe in medicating for no reason and I often have staggered hatches in the brooder together. Treating will not hurt them if done correctly and if not...

I unfortunately have a lot of experience with cocci, have been raising/breeding birds here in Oregon for 8 years or so. I had many losses in the first few years due mostly to inexperience in recognizing the symptoms. Having done my "research" before I got my very first chicks, I put apple...

If you look on the Oregon Winter Poultry Swap Facebook page, I think there is someone bringing some to the swap which is Feb. 21st in Rickreall. She may sell them beforehand if you can get ahold of her. You need to go to the files section and look at the list of what everyone is bringing...
