we live in salem near the now close fairview, and we have an occasional cougar sighting! Most of the predators here come out at night. As long as there are bushes or some other place to hid from hawks the main predators for free range urban chickens are dogs.

We bought in our hen and her chicks on Saturday and let them out of the dog pen in the garage morning but the other chickens that stayed seem to be doing ok. The smoke is higher in the sky and it's hazy but we can see the sun. As of this morning almost one million acres burned or burning in...

Quote: We are north of Kubler right off Pringle. Our pool was 82 degrees today without the heater. It was 76 degrees the day before yesterday. Doing the same for our chickens. They have a small wading pool too. I put an inch of water in it and the walk around in it lots during the day though...

I got my first batch of "urban" chicks there. We lost 2 of 6 the first 24 hours but the other four just turned two years old and are still laying almost daily. The folks at Old Mill take very good care of their chicks, but the chicks the sell come all the way from Arkansas. They have an...

Excess calcium isn't good for chicks. They are ready to switch AFTER they start to lay but I keep mine on the chick feed since it costs the same and is higher in Protein. I just give them calcium on the side.

I know this isn't the sale page but I want to keep this local. We have four 8 week old chicks for sale. They were locally hatched and I have raised them since they were less than 24 hours old. Some (if not all) of the eggs came from Farwest. All but the Maran was (supposed to be) sexed. The...

Pasty butt should not last for more than a few days but the irritation cause by both the ammonia and our picking at the area. is another story. Try active culture buttermilk to improve gut flora, they seem to like it better than yogurt. Then keep the vent clear but avoid rubbing or pulling at...

We got eight chicks from a local guy and they are thriving but our coop only holds ten hens total so we can only keep five of them so will have three to sell. They are 3 weeks old now and plan to sell them locally as pullets in June since I need to keep the ones that get on the best with our...

He didn't argue he just we clear that he would meet us elsewhere. You do need to consider that chickens are not easy to catch and he might need to pick them off the roost for you in the morning. Maybe he can grab up a selection of the breeds you are thinking of so you can choose from. I don't...

I got my chicks from Cooper. To be honest I was considering backing out because he wanted to meet us for delivery so I couldn't see the conditions where they where hatched, but because he had day old chicks of all four breeds we wanted I went for it against my better judgment and they are by far...

Farwest told us they sell "over hatch' if you call to reserve then on Tuesday for Wednesday pickup but no one answered the phone or returned our call. I suspect they are to disorganized to deal with small purchases and now a few people have now told me that there have been sexing issues but no...
