Yep and no pigs :)
There is a clause stating you can appeal the rooster law - you have to bring a bunch of supportive neighbors and state your case - I know one person who did it successfully.
Yep - sounds like no one knows what they are doing - haha.
The man I spoke with was the head of the Board of Health and he just said each city/town has it's own poultry regulations - never mentioned anything else, so as far as I know - no one other than my friends and neighbors know I have...
Hmmm - I never heard of this? I'm in Hudson - I called the Town Hall and asked the appropriate person who emailed me the town animal ordinances - he didn't even ask who I was or how many chickens I had or anything.
I"m in Hudson - here we can have as many chickens as we want, but no roosters. No other rules. I've seen people with chickens in Marlborough, but don't know anyone specifically - Just give a call to city hall and ask what the chicken laws are - For me I think it was the Dept. of Health - good...
The coop is DONE -
I just posted MANY pictures in the coop section - went a little overboard since I'm so excited :)

They should move out in another week of 2, so in the meantime, I built this little portable run - works great!
Hi Chikit - I'm in Hudson - also have 7 chicks who are 2 weeks old. They have spent the whole day outside today in this beautiful weather and are having a blast! Have dug a little dust bath hole, running around catching little bugs and eating chickweed - life is good :)
How old are your chicks...
swschick - I used pine tongue and groove then put sealant on the outside (did this yesterday!) - I think it should hold up pretty well - at least I hope so! All I have left to do is put up some perches and do a little chicken coop landscaping - then DONE :)))
I had thought of solar power Arielle - will look into that!
My current plan is no lighting in the winter, but who knows what I'll actually do - maybe a compromise...no lighting in fall/early winter - then gradual increase starting in January? I'll just wait and see how it goes.
Thank you Kannna - I envy you living on Martha's Vinyard!
Is yours a "Garden Coop"? Right now I'm trying to figure out a roost plan for 7 chickens - where did you put the roosts in your coop? I'm so close to done....
Thank you Danib :)
The biggest thing I've ever built prior to this is a small bookcase, so a coop was a real stretch! I just focused on one little part at a time which kept me from freaking out!
No - not planning on electricity - all my chickens are cold tolerant so won't need heat and at this...

Not quite yet - my coop is almost done. Just putting on the finishing touches then will take some pix for that thread that has been so inspiring for me!
Here it is so far.... I built it totally by myself (58 year old NON carpenter woman) - Has been an amazing learning experience...
I just went to Erickson's Grain Mill in Acton today to get feed and they had a variety of chicks - didn't ask what breeds, but you could call - they were ALL adorable of course :)
