Welcome from Salem county! Poop boards under the roosts help alot with scooping poop from the coop. I believe @DobieLover has an article about her beautiful coop and the poop boards. I use leaves, grass, old bedding , wood chips, and dirt in my run. When it gets too wet (after snow melt) I may...

I wish I were closer. Salem county is about as far away as you can get. That is a good deal you are offering.

I usually get the check on Saturday. It has come as late as Monday. They also have a furniture/everything else besides livestock auction once a month on a certain Friday. I think Dawn told me it was the 2nd Friday of the month. (Not really sure)

I hope it works out for you. I am lucky because I don't live too far away. I can not make it to the auction today, but next week these young BCM cockerels will go. Unless someone wants them so here they are

They auction hay, livestock and all types of poultry. The auction starts at 1, all animals and stuff must be there by 12. You can leave...

I just thought I would post a heads up for all you egg hatchers around South jersey. The TSC in Vineland has NR3600 incubators in stock and on the shelf. I understand people are looking for this incubator and it is sold out in many locations.

Welcome fellow SJ member! I can watch my birds all afternoon. And still watch for more! Enjoy your new flock. Sounds like those girls are going to load you up with nice eggs soon. Nothing better than a sunday breakfast made with your own eggs! And those breeds you have will provide you with...

Welcome to BYC. I am close by in Salem Co. I believe a racoon can pull a chicken under a fence. They have been known to rip off heads and limbs through a fence. I have baby ducks for sale. I have pekin, welsh harlequin and mixed. Sooo cute!

Is anyone interested in young pekin chicks? I hatched some on May 1st and have some left. They are eating good and go for a swim everyday in a small pool. I keep them on an enclosed poarch at nite and they are doing great. I am located in south jersey and would be willing to meet this weekend to...

Sorry your TSC is run that way. The one near me in Bridgeton/Upper Deerfield is the best! They are very nice and always try to show me new things and where the chicken stuff is. I like to bring my dog in there, but he hates it! He tries to hide behind the cart and the employees always talk nice...

Sorry to hear about your bulbs. I don't have any hints for you on that subject. I have however had great success with oak and maple leaves in my runs. I basically live in the woods so I have lots of leaves. I also have muddy runs when it rains. Why? Because I removed all the leaves! So now I...

Wow what a visit you are having. Now you can tell your "girls" about the time you looked death in the eyes and survived! Your chickens will forever look at you in awe! Seriously, I hope you fixed that hole so no more pigeons become hawk bait. You are the second person who had to deal with a hawk...

New chicks have to grow feathers before attempting to move them outdoors. this takes 6 weeks or more. Some people put them outdoors on nice days and then in the coop or brooder at nite. I guess it depends on your setup. I am hatching turkeys and I want to concentrate on them this spring. If you...

Best of luck to everyone in those towns. I can't imagine not having chickens. Properly taken care of, they don't smell or attract rats or make alot of noise. (Roosters are another story). And coops can be so much fun. Don't forget that fresh eggs shared with uneasy neighbors go a long way.

We are getting slammed here in south jersey. I think we already have more snow on the ground than all snow combined for the season. My poor chickens don't know what to do. Hang in there for a few more days ladies!

So glad to hear about the hen who almost became hawk-bait. Will her stiches dissolve or does she have to go back to the vet? I have removed stiches from my dog myself. Just snip and tug. Of course the vet will examine and make sure all is well. If there is no swelling or leaking, then things...
