Sorry to hear about your Marans roo, Donna. I hatched one from my flock I got from you, and I plan to split the flock so I can put him with half the hens. This waiting for chicks to hatch for the first time since fall sucks. I am also waiting for eggs from the Easter hatch along. And I am...

Who is the Good Shepherd?Anyway, my huge batch of eggs went into the hatcher today. Then I HAD to put three more trays of eggs x48 each in to the bator, because it looked too empty.

Are you kidding? I was too busy candling to count! Stuffed in some of every breed I have that is laying, and some I bought at auction locally. Now I have to get the trays and load those suckers up for easter hatching. This is the most I have locked down at once. Need to build more brooders. Old...

And I set 100, that has my cabinet full until i move the first batch into the hatcher. I love my Buff Rocks, they are big fat, fluffy birds and they lay a LOT of eggs. Donna, what line were those FBCM from that I got from you? I have a rotten memory.

Yes, they are cold hardy, and when I had a light on them, they laid even in winter. Check out the quail thread

I have coturnix, which i recommend due to their calm nature. I do not recommend hatch and release, it may even be illegal in some states. If you were planning to do that, i would suggest a native species like bobwhite. They are much more aggressive towards each other, and more flighty.

Well, it's funny with quail. Sometimes you get no one that wants them, then sometimes people want to buy thousands at onceBut you should try them just for the enjoyment of having them. They are like little miracles, so tiny to start with... then they grow like mad! In 6 weeks they start laying...

Thanks, I am quite excited and I have a bunch of duck eggs as well as some chicken eggs I bought locally and a bunch more I can't bear to sell for eating eggs. Feed bills are out of control and I am trying to eliminate some breeds that eat too much. Of course, I started buying bunnies like they...

My problem is I have way too many chickens laying too many eggs and I can't hatch all of them. My bators are full, but I did order three more:-D I need to sell some eggs. I can only eat so many.

I wonder how many generations will be needed to get the topknot back to speed. Must build more coops!

My project is going to be black polish hens with a lavender Ameraucana rooster, if I ever get the pen built. How about lavender polish with fluffy cheeks? Way cute!:-)

Yeah, all of us hard core addicts drop in from time to time. I am doing the chicken shuffle, trying to move some out of the brooders into grow out pens. Problem is I need more grow out pens. Of course, if I had more coops then I would have my grow out pens emptied out. Heck, I am building coops...

Hey Donna, Those chickies I got from you are growing like weeds, they are in the outdoor brooder and loving it. I am getting 1-2 eggs a day now from the Lav/black Ams. It has been fairly warm here, so my girls are laying well. Got the latest coop up and full of cochins, so I will clean that old...
