my croc pot idea is working, the heat stays even, but that is was way too much water. I am going to dry hatch till day 11 (hatching 101 says egg must lose fluids till then), and when I add more water it will be a small amount till lockdown.
going on day 4/5
I have a very dark egg that only now that it is ready to hatch I can even tell it's alive. I am excited because it will be the grandchild of this roo who is no longer with us.
I dry hatch.
my chicks look like this at hatch time...I think it depends on your incubator too. still air is best for dry hatch. read up on it.
Below are the eggs going in crock pot.
I am trying the crock pot idea, because I am bored, not because I need it... I am heating it up 24 hrs and if it holds heat I will put in my LO eggs.
above is the dial I hear you turn it on until light goes on, then back off, it seems to be warming, (some people said there should be water in...
up date...I thought the blue arrow was a clear pull it is behind but still going... the black dots arepulls
the pink dots are from out of town due on the 20th, the rest are due the 16th.
I count at lockdown. You do not have control over clears or quitters, or some genetics leading up to lock down. And do not feel bad about the quitters, just pretend they were roosters.
I had been getting good rates my last batch 16/17.
This batch after pulling my clears I had 6 (it was a planned small batch) due 30th. Then on the 28th I had to leave town on emergency for a couple of days.house got cold, I thought I lost my whole bunch but this egg hatched.
My current situation, I have 11 (I don't know if they are all fertile yet) in incubator. 2 thermometers to check for cold spots. water dish is only size I use till lock down. penny from before 82' copper sterilizes water, eggs in cartons with bottom cut out, I will lay them out at lockdown.
