IF you are on facebook, there are heaps. Best bet is to search for the breed you want, find the Aussie thread for it and ask. It is possible to bring breeds in from overseas, but it takes 18 months and several hundred thousand dollars

Find out what her favorite traeats are and sit out in the yard with her some where and place a few out in front of you. After a while she will get brave enough to eat them, and after that she will start to trust you more if you do it often

Depending on what breeder it comes from it could be white or light brown eggs. Most of mine start laying around 14 -20 weeks old.

She sounds like she trying to decide where she wants to lay her eggs. They should not go broody before they lay at least 2 eggs. You will know she broody when she spends most of the day sitting in the nest box and yells at you if you get close. My silkies are good layers when they are not broody...

What sort of idiots take dogs to poultry sales? That's just silly. My local sale is week after Easter. We have never has some one try and bring a dog.

Sorry I won't be likely to be able to help for up there, though I'll ask around. I'm south east Sa so most of those I know are southern Victoria.

If they are pea combs on pip and aJ which they look like then aJ is probably a boy. Pip is most likely a girl. For most breeds of pea comb like silkie and Aracuana the combs on the boys widen at the back, and the girls are more narrow

Good to hear the move is well in progress. I hope your son gets the apartment he wants I was actually slightly surprised as how long it took these boys to find voice. They were scheduled for freezing a week ago, but were still too small, so they got a reprieve until the auction. If the noise...

It looks like the boys from my November hat have worked out that they are roosters. Instead of 1 set of crowing this morning I've had various different pitch and types of crow on and off most of the day. It's still 5 weeks until they are all scheduled to leave, but I might have to find out who...

Nice looking menagerie. Welcome to BYC. Ducks and chickens swap all the time, so I guess other species do too.

Not too bad, the ones we had when I was a kid averaged about 9.

Hi, and welcome. What part of Australia are you from? It's a big place. I know a couple of duck breeders in the local poultry club, so if I know where you are I might be able to point you in the right direction.

I had that happen and every one that got those symptoms died. I never took them to the vet cause i didn't have any money. You are running them at a really strange temperature though. They look young enough to be still having a 30 to 35 c heat source for nights and you could probably let them out...

I would suggest putting some golf balls, ping pong balls or fake eggs in the new nest so they know that's what it's for. I don't know if it's possible for an 8 week old to lay. Mine start any time after 12 weeks

My brother had Muscovy ducks. They were good pets and got on well with the chickens, even sharing nests and hatching each other's eggs, other than that the only ducks I have seen are the ones at the poultry shows, they are mostly khaki Campbell and Indian runner around here.

The wild hatch has moved into the coop. If we get a nice day tomorrow I'll take shadow out of the box with her babies so that she realizes that all the eggs have hatched..
