Well the 35 gallon rubber made tote brooder lasted about a week and half! We ended up setting up an x-pen we have for the dogs, lining it with cardboard, putting it in a base for the xpen that we had made for when the dogs were puppies, and using this for a brooder. We had made a nice brooder...
That's a good size for the first few weeks but they will soon outgrow that size brooder. Maybe a bigger tote as they get bigger or a metal watering trowel (like they have the chicks in at tractor supply) would work when they get bigger.
Tis the season! Getting ready to put the brooder together. Last year in was in the house in one of the spare bedrooms- never again! The dust was aweful! This year it is going in the basement. We are using the same brooder as last year.
We did do nipple waterers but the wasted water collected in the pine shavings and was always damp. We bought a hanging one and it seems to be working great.
The same thing with the water happend to is too- I got tired of cleaning the water and food every 1/2 hour! So we raised the water and food up on a brick and worked really well until we could get something hanging for them. Great idea with the dresser! And even better set up in the garage! I'm...
