With an EE roo, it's hard to tell what color the offspring's egg will be since you don't know if he has 2 copies of the blue egg gene, 1 copy, or perhaps no copies of it. It is possible you might get some olive layers by crossing with your cuckoo marans hen. Crossing him with a light brown...
I cross a Blue Wheaten Am roo with a Welsummer hen. This is my first summer of doing it so I don't know what they will ultimately look like or what color the eggs would be. But hop on over to the Olive Egger thread and check out post 7383 which has pics of the two chicks I've kept. They are...
Hi Ready4flight. Welcome to BYC! There are several of us Calvert Countians here on BYC. I will be hatching some chicks (hopefully) in mid-Aug if you are interested.
Hi photorenee. Welcome to BYC! I live very near Huntingtown and I may have some chicks available on July 1 or 2. I'm just today setting some eggs. They would be Oliver Egger or Easter Eggers from my two Wheaten Ameraucana roos over either Barred Rock, Easter Egger, or Welsummer. If you are...
Anybody have Barred Rock hatching eggs available? Since my eggs in the bator are going into lockdown tomorrow, I'm starting to plan my next hatch! I would prefer someplace I can drive and pick them up rather than have them shipped. Thanks!
My dad sunk an old tub in our yard when I was a kid. We landscaped it and built a rock waterfall on one end with an underwater pump and some rocks. It held goldfish and a few underwater plants for a while. Sounds kinda bad, but it actually looked nice!
I have one EE hen and she lays a very pretty large (and occasionally extra-large) sized light green egg. Not the greatest layer, but worth waiting for. She's neither overly friendly or overly flighty. She just kind of ignores you unless you get too close. I used to have an EE roo. He went to...
I've know of a few that have tried it. I think a few have been successful, but it depends on the situation. There is some movement to get them to change it to 1 acre (which it was until around 2007 in CalCo), but I live on 3 acres, so I haven't really kept up with that.
It's a snow day and I'm bored....so I looked it up 'cause I'm curious. Go to http://www.wicomicocounty.org/DocumentCenter/View/1190 and scroll down to page 99. Looks like it's OK in residential areas with some restrictions as to space, setbacks, and personal vs. commercial use.
One word of...
I'm sorry but I don't know about Wicomico county. I live in Calvert so that's why I know those restrictions. Seems like Wicomico would be chicken farm country so I would suspect the regulations would be minimal. But the best thing to do is go to the county webpage and look up what the...
Yes, in Calvert County you are required to have at least 3 acres of land to have chickens. But there are no restrictions on the number you have or whether you also have roosters. You should check with your homeowners association if you live in a development that has one. They may have other...
Howdy neighbor. Welcome to the northern end of Calvert Co! I live near Lower Marlboro. I gearing up to breed Wheaten/Blue Wheaten Ameracaunas (my pullets are just about ready to start laying.....can't wait to see their blue eggs!). Wow. Cream Legbars, and sooooo close to me!
