Ask at your local feed mill. If that doesn't give you a name, ask your Ag extension service - they probably know someone in the 4H community who can point you in the right direction.

That's actually kinda funny ... and appropriate ... because Silkies have a "soft spot" for pretty much anyone. They're such neat little birds! :)

4H is an EXCELLENT program. I highly recommend it. As a high school student, the sooner you get involved, the better, as it could affect college plans. Many colleges and trade schools see 4H as a great training ground for successful careers. As an extra incentive for you, many 4H programs offer...

Many areas allow exceptions for 4H youngsters. Do you have anyone in the household who could register for the program? Once the child ages out of the program, the flock should be grandfathered in.

Most of my birds are Nankin bantams. They're a rare breed that only recently moved from "Critically Endangered" to "Threatened" status with the Livestock Conservancy (www.livestockconservancy.org.) I also have a handful of standard fowl, including a chronically broody bantam cochin and one very...

I have a trio of 6 month old, single comb Nankin bantams available. I'm in northeastern MD. If anyone's interested, PM me for details.

Is anyone interested in Nankin Bantams? ACK! I've been raising chicks for a coworker and she just backed out. I have three pairs of four-month-olds that can go. Two SC pairs and one RC cockerel with a SC pullet. Near Elkton, MD (the northeastern corner of the state.) Special consideration...

Check your local CraigsList, Freecycle, etc for a swing set frame. They make a really good base for an A-frame roof, can be made moveable, and are usually available "Free for the pick-up." As a bonus, if there's still a swing hinge on the top bar, you have a ready-made chicken swing!

I guess that kinda depends on what you're looking for. As for swaps, be sure to wash everything you wear before you go back in with your birds and quarantine as far away from your current birds as possible. The Avian Flu is here and spreading fast and you do NOT want to take any chances on...

    MARYLAND THREAD!

Hi! Welcome to Maryland. I hope you brought some of that West Coast warmth & sunshine with you. I'm in the far northeaster corner of the State - I can be in DE or PA or the Chesapeake in minutes, and can dip my feet into the ocean in under an hour ... pretty nice! I've got a small, backyard...

Handsome Boys! I hope you find a good home for them. If not, consider a bachelor pen. When everyone in the run is male, they get along much better. I love my fellas!

I'd LOVE to have ducks again, but I can't keep them safe from the local foxes. Sigh!

    MARYLAND THREAD!

Welcome Aboard! I'm in Maryland's far Northeastern corner. Aside from the requisite dogs and cats (my kids say I'm one cat shy of Crazy Cat Lady status,) I am currently down to 11 chickens for the winter, mostly Nankin bantams. I'm hoping to hatch in the Spring, so numbers should go up a bit...

Welcome to the thread! Watcha raisin'? I've got mostly Nankin bantams, with a few large fowl egg layers thrown into the mix - quite a hodge-podge!

    MARYLAND THREAD!

Cecil-tucky, here! My flock is mostly Nankin bantams *the tiny red chickens at Colonial Williamsburg) with a few Kindergarten Rescues thrown in. One of those is a HUGE Jersey Giant hen ... and lemme tell ya, she sure looks silly in there with all those tiny bantams. Silly, absolutely ... but...
