It could be grass. They've been out a couple of times. 'Supervised' but there's 11, so couldn't guarantee no long grass got down.
I thought she was getting
Picked on, so separated her and noticed how skinny she is.
Yes, I think sour crop-do they fill by themselves slowly-or only through them...
Thank you all for asking.
She's still alive, but not eating that I can see. I've taken to making a mash from water, chick crumb, syrup and olive oil. Then I'm syringing it into her crop. I've only started this today. I'm hopeful she'll put some weight back on, but I don't know what else to do...
Hello & Help !
I have a lethargic chick that I've seen being slow for a couple of days.
She's 12 weeks old and has been running with all the other girls (11 chicks & 6 adults) the past week.
I brought her into the house today as she looked like she needed some support.
When I picked her up...
Why won't young chicks use the coop like other chickens do?
I've kept them in the coop for the last 3 days. Let them run around yesterday and today for about 2 hours at the end of the day.
I'm not sure this would be safe overnight....
I don't want to find them disappearing overnight from being...

So sorry about your duck.
I...
I have done it. There are lots of pitfalls, and I wouldn't recommend it to a novice (like I was)
I can't say about drakes as I've not got any ducks, but here are my top tips:
1. Keep them separate from any other hens for 3 weeks
2. Feed them layers pellets with water in - they didn't recognise...
I think it's the cold summer. Bringing their feathers on more quickly. Mine are similar.
It's great that the chicks at different ages all get on. Having more pens would just make it complicated.
I have 3 hen breeds under a Cream Legbar Roo:
Ex Battery
Black sex link
Cream Legbar.
So... I'm hoping to have some pretty eggs, but at the minute I've got a complete mix of barred multi-coloured chicks !!!
I've had a busy week at work, but I was going to today, then it's been raining all...
In case anyone wants to know...
3-week old chicks and 1 day old chicks get on happily together. :ya
The little babies go hide under the brooder if they need to escape...
The 3-week olds look like gangly teenagers who are not the least bit interested in playing with their younger...
They've started their feathers, so perhaps an English summer will be kind enough to let them outside ...
Currently they're inside so I'm hopeful without heat they'll be just fine - 5 degrees a week puts them between 20-25 degrees recommended this coming week. Would anyone advise keeping them...
They're the same mix breed, so they'll be quite large at 3 weeks. I've only got one Brinsea eco 20 brooder. I guess I'm worried the 3 weeks babies will get cold if I don't have them under a brooder... but it is summer....
They are so lovely !
Are they the Marans babies? How was the hatch rate?
They're doing really well. All 6 running and flapping around. They're already flying/jumping to sit on the sides of their brooder, so they might need to hop it out of my office v.soon.
I've bred my ex batts with my CCL Roo ! I'm hoping for lots of green eggs... at the minute I've got some very...
For some reason I haven't been getting notifications from this thread...
So sorry to hear it's not gone well with this hatch. :hugs
Hopefully next spring will be a whole new year for you :)
Did any of them hatch?
