My favorite chicken is a bielefelder. There are a few people that breed/sell them in CO. I know every chicken is different so they might not all be like this, but she has been my most prolific layer over the years and laid the largest eggs. She is larger/heavier bodied than most other...
CO has a lot of micro-climates, so I’m not sure how long/harsh your winter is. I like to try and get birds with heavier bodies and smaller combs and shy away from game birds and leghorns etc.
Hey, I haven’t been on here in ages, so not sure who is still around or if it’s all new folks. I posted in buy sell trade as well, but I’m looking for some female ducks in CO. I’ve had a few losses in the past year (including a recent bobcat incident). I’m down to 3 girls with one drake and...
@lomine we'll see come spring! I have fertile Blue Swedish eggs and Swedish/KC cross. Usually I can tell which eggs are which when I collect them. Right now I don't think I can handle more ducks, I feel like their living conditions would deteriorate with the space they've been allotted, but I...
@Mtn Margie yes, the power kept cutting in and out. I can’t even count the number of times it went out. I am thankful we were able to keep the wood stove going. When it’s that windy it doesn’t always vent right, but it did pretty well.
We survived the blizzard! We live along the stretch of 285 that was shut down Friday-Sunday for blizzard conditions. It was the worst I've seen it in the 4 years I've lived there and someone else we know that's lived there 15+ years says it's the worst he's seen as well. It wasn't even really...
Haha. Yeah, I figured it was a long shot, but if a chicken would kill a mouse then I like to think a large goose would maybe kill a prairie dog! Even my cat has trouble with them. He can catch em but the big ones are difficult to kill and often escape.
I got my initial flock of started pullets from them and can not speak more highly of them myself. I believe the woman’s name is Rebecca and the husband’s name escapes me at the moment.
Is there anyone in Colorado that might be interested in adopting goat(s)? If you are serious please DM me your name and phone number and if they still need homes my friend will get in touch with you with more information.
Yeah, the weather isn't exactly pleasant right now. The roads were terrible last night. I just want to plant my garden, but I know it's still too soon. I feel like it's always too soon. It could be mid July and freeze :barnie.
I gave my broody some fertile duck eggs last night. So if...
I haven't been on the CO thread in a bit. I hope everyone is well. So of course now that the feed stores are done with chicks for the year, my girl just went broody :th. I'm thinking about giving her some hatching eggs or popping a chick under her. If anyone has either, please shoot me a...
The drifts :he
With the storm about a week ago the snow drift finally breached our 5ft snow fence. With yesterday's wind, it's now creeping and building across the driveway and around the coops. :th I've also been having issues with all these storms dropping a foot of snow and then it being 45...
Have any of you sold at any of the swaps? What is your experience with this? If my girl goes broody again I might let her hatch, but I really wouldn't want to keep any of the ducklings, so ideally I'd want to be able to sell them all off in one day at a swap, but I don't know if this is...
Happy New Year! I hope your flocks are doing well this winter (the cold has been awful lately, 7 below when I let them out this morning), and the egg production ramps up soon! I think I've only got one active layer right now, but that's one more than a week ago!
