I've used those Victor traps successfully as well. I hose them out really good every time, as poop and pee can make them sticky inside and malfunction. I usually use sunflower seed or peanuts

Dreamz, it's not a very good idea to use mouse baits around your chickens. Baits make the mice sick before they die, and the chickens can more easily catch them and eat them. Birds can get exposed to poison that way. That is how many owls are killed, by catching and eating rodents that are sick...

I'm not sure you can kill oregano. It spread out of my garden a few years back and now most of the lawn in that area consists of Oregano - it makes a great lawn, mows well, soft underfoot, and drought tolerant.

Yes, I think you're supposed to wait until the second growing season before you harvest. And then you shouldn't harvest all of the stalks.

Here is a link to an MDARD page which lists multiple HPAI website links: https://www.michigan.gov/mdard/animals/diseases/avian/avian-influenza?utm_campaign=&utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery#current-status And a quote from this page: "Please Note: HPAI is NOT evidenced by one dead bird...

They could have gone outside today, it was 67 even up here. But it's supposed to cool off and get damp, not very nice weather for babies.

If they are in a warmer than the outdoors environment then they are still on supplemental heat.

While I hatched at least one Arkansas blue - speckled Sussex bantam mix last year, none of the blue eggs had any development. 13 of 15 for the bantam eggs though at 10 days.

Are they fully feathered, with a cozy coop to sleep in? Are they off supplemental heat? If so they should be fine.

Meijer Gardens sounds lovely. I know it's part of farm life, but it's hard to take any life, especially one you have taken care of for years.

I have two bantam SS roosters from two different sources, from last year and the year before. Every rooster I have hatched has been non-aggressive, and these two have coexisted without any sign of disagreement since last year. I culled one other cockerel end of the summer last year, and was...

So did all four that hatched have yellow legs? I know you had talked about putting color on the hens vents. Maybe you could color the hens different colors, or separate them during egg collection, and track which chicks hatched from which eggs. Obviously if you have yellow legs your rooster must...

So do all the chicks have yellow shanks? What about the legs of the parents? Even if the parents were both heterozygous, you would expect only 25% yellow legs. Of course, your sample size is quite small, it appears.

Sorry about that, Fuzzi. So far I've been getting all white legs. Let me know when you have another broody, and put some dummy eggs under her so I can get some saved up and sent
