Thank you all for your well wishes. There is no media coverage about our fight for rezoning, or the criminal charges against the commissioner. They did a pretty good job at covering it all up. When I threatened the township with a lawsuit they agreed to change my zoning as requested. There were...

Good morning fellow Michiganders, I have not been on BYC much for quite some time. For those that remember, I was fighting a very corrupt township here in Michigan over our right to own farm animals on over 50 acres. We were zoned residential, and the keeping of farm animals was prohibited in...

Hawks are my number one predator here in the woods. They are also illegal to shoot as they are a protected species. The best thing to do is offer protection, or prepare for losses. Good luck, I hope the hawks stay away!

I have registered ND goats. 5 doe and 2 buck. The buck are from good milking lines. You are welcome to use him as a stud. I'm not sure yet why people charge money for stud service. I'm not out anything if you bring her to my buck... As long as they are disease free. PM me if you are interested...

I think its funny that the line commissioner who added wording that ultimately saved our farm from further harassment doesn't remember why he spoke up about the change. Raz, I emailed you direct correspondence from him. Maybe that will clear it up...

Raz, I've been trying to keep up on the bee keeping part of the proposed GAAMP changes, and I cannot find where category 3 and 4 does not allow for keeping bees. Only that the flight patern needs to be diverted from near by neighbors and public areas (250 feet I think) through a privacy fence or...

I just checked it out, Nothing that would work for me... Its funny though how they make it so clear that once purchased, its subject to local township zoning!

My new stove is coming tomorrow! Its the old school wood burning cook stove/oven. I'm not sure it will be installed right away though. The piping had to come separate, and there is a whole lot of snow to try and work around. Saving money and energy is costing us an arm and a leg to get this set...

Ah, yes township logic (or the lack of) where some townships rezone large Ag farms to residential, and do not allow the keeping of ONE chicken on hundreds up to thousands of acres now zoned RESIDENTIAL! One might argue that its for the possibility of developing. But nobody is or plans to...

Yup, Allendale is home of the GVSU Lakers, and back yard chickens! As far as I know, its the most chicken friendly township around the area. If a person owns 5 acres or more they are considered a farm, and regardless of zoning, can operate their farm with unlimited animals as long as it complies...

Sorry, Its still early... Welcome! In Ottawa County there is a township, Allendale twp. And they allow up to 4 chickens on ANY property. No size limit, any zoning. If you purchase in a subdivision with an association, then the association likely has rules against keeping animals, but check...

I had a similar situation in my flock. I watch and watched. It turned out that while perching at night they would peck/pick on about 5 of my hens. It was only these 5, and not the others. They would simply pull the feathers off the backs, and leave the hen bare back... After reading what to do...

@aart, I sent you a PM. With local officials spying on this site, I don't publicize my info... Especially since one was convicted of crimes against us, which he felt was justified because we own animals against ordinance. The judge disagreed...
