Hubby and I both had a great day! I think Freya did too. Thank you all for your patience with her barking.

I got my seedless watermelon at Meijer. We looked for seeded, but they didn't have any. Actually, they didn't have many watermelon at all. They had those big boxes -- the kind that make great chick brooders! -- and there were about 5-10 left in each box. I bet they sold a LOT of watermelon over...

I bought a (seedless) watermelon yesterday. I put 3 slices in the freezer overnight and gave them to the chickens this afternoon. They loved it! They know what watermelon is, so there was no hesitation. I wish I could find watermelon with seeds... the seeds are an extra treat.

From her obituary: "Anne Frances Arthur, 66, died Thursday, March 20, 2025, at her home in Lawrence, Michigan. Anne was born on Aug. 9, 1958, in Royal Oak, MI, to her parents, Sarah and Marcus Arthur." "She was briefly married to David Dombrowski, a union which produced two children, Matthew...

If it wasn't health issues, it was because she didn't like gatherings. I got the impression she was rather a recluse. She didn't go to any of the Chickenstocks I've been to (3). Everything in the Obit lines up with what I knew. A surviving daughter, a son who had died.

All I know is that her first name was Anne. She lived in the Benton Harbor area; how close to the city, I don't know. She used to do some kind of art with something really heavy... iron? stone? cast cement? She had some pictures on here on a thread, but I don't recall which one. It was...

Me too. She really valued her privacy, so I don't know if anyone, even the mods, know her email or mailing address.

I like how sassafras leaves can look like a mitten. :)

Oh wow! Transplanting sassafras??? How about getting rid of sassafras? They come up from the roots, they spread by seed, and string trimming the little seedlings doesn't kill them! Mary, send me a PM the day before Chicken Stock, and I'll dig up a bunch of them and bring them to you if you...

I'm wishing some of the rain they thought we'd get would actually fall here, and wash the smoke out of the air.

Last year, our habaneros didn't bear until very late, and we had to BUY (!!) peppers to make hubby's salsa. This year, we started the habaneros and jalapenos on a heat mat inside. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! The seeds were up in 5 days and the plants are a bushy 7" tall right now. Much better than the...

@fuzzi, I saw a Rainbow Scarab in my garden yesterday. I'd never seen one before, so I had to look it up. Very pretty, and it's a dung beetle, so it's helpful in the garden.

Lots of garden work here! Yesterday I moved all my starts out of the green house to start hardening them off. They're in dog crates, covered with sheets, sitting out in the garden. The sheets keep them protected from the harsh sunlight and wind. They had a few hours uncovered yesterday, and...

Chilly this week. 50s until Saturday. The tomato plants I started in the green house want to get out of their pots! And they're one-quart pots.

Black Australorp chicks are so adorable! All chicks are cute, but the little cotton ball butts... :love When I got my first chicks, I fell in love with BAs. I'd read that the 5-6 week old age was the "ugly teenage phase," but I thought they were cute then too. And then I saw the Blue...
