Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Had thunder, lightning, pouring rain, and some wind gusts. But I was at the southern end of that string of storm front. I did hear a CRACK but saw nothing out the window, turns out a rather large branch broke out of a tree near the road(luckily not in the road or onto the power lines).

Still might be humid enough, plus the weight of that much feed. Mine jams up like that too at times, but it's pretty easy to clear.

Is it inside the coop so it doesn't get wet? Are you using crumbles?

What kind do you have now? I made a feeder, with many iterations to try and stop billing out. I like it, but I do 'fill' twice a day because they can still bill feed out: https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/aarts-waste-free-funnel-bucket-feeder.67218/

Not necessarily, I think the 'story' about opossums being good at tick eating is because they keep themselves clean of ticks.

Plenty of opossums in Michigan. Not sure that they eat many ticks as much as they pick them off themselves.

I've done a fair amount. Keeping bator in a room that is steady in temps(at least 68°F) and free of drafts will help immensely. Bator temps must stay steady, more important than humidity. Get a good therm. I use this one. Jumped thru many hoops before learning how to buy a good one. Humidity...

Curious, what was it last year?

Gravel will just hold the poops and get nasty. The slope I see there should be fine for drainage, tho you would also have to rake any bedding back up the slope over time, maybe add some trenching at the bottom of slope to carry any run off farther away. Stall pellets might be good for a right...

They need some wood chipping bedding in there to help with all that muck.

It just pops up more in cooler temps. Could very well be that migration has an effect.
