Diary & Notes ~ Air Cell Detatched SHIPPED Chicken Eggs for incubation and hatching

Oh Sally, I didn't realize that you werent taking pre-payment. I always pre-pay for chicks I order and I always take pre-payment for chicks I hatch. It makes things so much less stressful and if I end up with extra chicks, at lest I've been paid for them. Anyway, I came back to say that of...

I've seen that happen too, those membranes are about two humidity points away from assuming the consistency of rubber roofing.

Diary & Notes ~ Air Cell Detatched SHIPPED Chicken Eggs for incubation and hatching

Essentially, it helps to weigh the eggs before they go into the incubator, then at 7 and 14 days. Also, since different breeds/species of birds will have different porosity of eggs, its helpful to only hatch one kind of egg at a time.. Perfect example: The hatch I'm coming to an end of right...

Diary & Notes ~ Air Cell Detatched SHIPPED Chicken Eggs for incubation and hatching

Heres a really long article but I like it a lot: Humidity During the incubation or setting period, eggs should lose 11 to 12% of their weight (another 3 to 4% in the hatcher, after day 18), due mainly to a loss of moisture. The amount of moisture (humidity) in the incubator controls the rate...

Diary & Notes ~ Air Cell Detatched SHIPPED Chicken Eggs for incubation and hatching

There are a number of factors which effect the hatchability of eggs and the water loss. First of all, those silkie eggs look to be about on par for shipped silkie eggs, you probably didn't do anything wrong. Silkie eggs seem to take shipping harder than other breeds. I've hatched silkies from...

Diary & Notes ~ Air Cell Detatched SHIPPED Chicken Eggs for incubation and hatching

Sally, its a hard decision but you will feel so much better once its done. I just restructured my flock and am planning on selling off half of whats left at the shows I'm going to this year. I still want to breed the breeds I have but I need to do it on a one-woman scale. No woman is an...

Diary & Notes ~ Air Cell Detatched SHIPPED Chicken Eggs for incubation and hatching

Oz, I have a question I think maybe only you could answer. I have a suspicion that my birds may be infected with haemoproteus which is malarial-like. Its not having any effect on adults, but the occasional hatchling is coming down with strange malaise and sudden death. Being the rabid...

Thank you. If I weren't a Buddhist, I would believe it was providence. We just got a large settlement for hurricane damage, so we actually had the money to pay for it. If we hadn't gotten that money, she would have had to be put to sleep. Then my other dog starts breathing really fast this...

Diary & Notes ~ Air Cell Detatched SHIPPED Chicken Eggs for incubation and hatching

My Walker Hound has had such a hard life. She was a discarded hunting dog when I found her on the side of the road, skin and bones with frost-bitten pads. She has kidney issues and all of her teeth are missing, she's seven but she looks to be about fourteen... Such a hard life. So then last...

Sally, when are you guys vacationing down here in Ocracoke again? There is this wonderful place to bring kids (assuming you would be bringing the kids and the grandbabies). Its called Aurora Fossil Mine and its completely free (there is a gift shop but you can completely ignore it). You and...

That picture is so adorable, Sally. I can almost smell the puppy smell when I look at it. I love that little mug- so cute! I just saw on the Facebook page of the poultry group that I belong to, somebody had a litter of like 6 black and chocolate lab puppies dumped on their property and...

Diary & Notes ~ Air Cell Detatched SHIPPED Chicken Eggs for incubation and hatching

My NPIP testers were out today. My chicken math finally caught up with me. My "hobby" now consists of 142 birds. My husband has been living with these birds for quite awhile now but when he actually heard the number he freaked out. I guess I'll be taking some birds to the flock swap next...

Fenugreek should help to add nutrients to her milk. At least, that's what I used when I breast fed each of mine for 2yrs (what was I thinking!?). Have you spoken to the vet? I have a foggy memory of oxytocin being a large part of the amount and quality of milk produced.
