The ladies have cleaned up their act. The dining area is much more presentable now- no noticeable food waste. Now if we could just conquer the potty training...
First of all- Shame on you for not reading all the BAGILION posts on this thread.

I have an enclosed coop and run so I have no dove issues. I suppose if I were Dr. Dolittle I might hear some taunting or something like that but I digress.
Is the idea that keeping it up off the ground will...
I agree that the chickens will not be concerned which materials used as long the food keeps flowing. The costs and ease of construction, handling would leave me leaning heavily towards good ol' "polyifalifalene".
I would also be concerned with sharp edges being damaging to chicks and their...
Jimmy- I forgot to mention that the pipe doesn't have to be solid schedule 40 PVC- that gets expensive fast. I used a sewer drain pipe that is kinda like corrugated plastic- black on the inside and white on the outside. One end had a bell on it that is made to slip over another pipe end. I just...

I found it at Home Depot and my local lumber store. I used a 4" drain pipe. The fittings were the what added up fast. The 10' straight pipe was around $7.50, the fittings between $3-$6 each. Best-O-Luck.
I have not had any problem with the feed getting clogged or stuck to this point. Granted the weather I am here is pretty good, so moisture may be the biggest challenge.
We just started getting eggs from our ladies, so all the hassle has started to "pay off".
Nw just to find a home for the...
As long as it works! I am curious how it is to fill the super tall pipe? I have a hard enough time pouring from the bag into the pipes that are only 4' or so high.
Where abouts are you that you have the moisture issues? I have been pretty fortunate to not have issues with moisture here in Idaho. We have had some spring showers but because the feeders are backed up to a cow barn on the other side of the run there is some protection from the elements. We...
We might have solved the scattering issue with 3 caps cut in half. They snapped on the outside of the fitting without needing to glue. The lip appears to be keeping the feed in yet let's the ladies get the feed they want.
We also raised the feeders up about 6 inches. I think the combination of...
Thanks- I have raised it to about a foot off the ground. We will see if it helps. I was not able to test it today as I was buying more feed and didn't get home before they were in the coop for the night.
Just wandering if there have been many that have had troubles with the chickens scooping the feed out of the feeder? After starting out with a similar style ( we just did holes instead of the cutout rectangle, we were not seeing the feed fill the pipe (I think it was too wide a lower horizontal...
