Yeah, not sure I'd be truly free ranging chickens right now. Our fenced area has a hot wire, so those woodland critters won't get in. Then fence is 6 foot tall too. I only have to worry about the aerial predators, but haven't had problems with those in several years.

Oh, yes. That might be a problem. It sure makes life easy when they have their own space and we don't have to babysit.

Maybe some day you'll have time to fence in a free range area for them. Everything costs money, of course, but so worth it to us. You will love having an irrigation system for the garden! We have sprinklers set up to water low at the base of plants and it is so convenient.

They have been integrated for a couple weeks. Young cockerels are not a threat to a rooster, so no drama yet. I just can't believe I never noticed this until now!!! It would definitely be nice if I could keep two roosters. One is not enough for 14 hens really. My poor broodies keep sitting...

Definitely enough sprinkles here to put on a rain jacket to feed the wildlife this morning. Good for the gardens!

Pretty amazing that a 9 year old still lays eggs daily!!! DH insists that our Australorps are still laying. They are over 8 years old. I don't know. I never see anyone lay eggs. But he is convinced the torpedo shaped eggs only come from them. If so, they are laying every now and then still.

Sorry to hear about your hen, @pennyJo1960 . I love that hens get to retire at your place. Mine do too. I love the old hens. They seem to be the wise old women of the flock. Someone asked me the other day how my chickens taste. I would have no idea. :idunno I don't even know if chickens...

I've been thinking about your little egg eater. I have noticed over these 8 years that all chickens will eat a raw egg if it is broken. Are you sure she actually broke it? That I haven't seen any of my hens do. For one reason or another, an egg gets broken and then they cannot resist eating...

That sounds like a lot of work @Smokerbill ! But good for you! I think it will make a great garden bed! And congrats on the weight loss!!! It's coming off slowly for me. Been dieting since last August. But what matters it? The 9 mos would have passed whether I dieted or not. :lol...

My diet is similar, noon and dinner, small portions. Have lost 40 lbs!!! 10 or 20 to go!!! :woot Stopped spending 3 hours going to the gym and bought equipment for the garage. Now it's 20 minutes. But that's not part of weight loss. At 71, I need the strength building too, especially...

Well, I can't eat them either. I always have one cookie to know how they turned out, but I'm on a diet, so no sweets or snacks for me! But these are DH's favorites, and he requested them. Hard to turn that guy down. :love Also, hard to have them in the house, which is why I was going to...

DH was up late to see it last night and couldn't. Still going on, huh? Have to be up early, so doubt anyone here will stay up this time. Hope you get some great pics and share them @Smokerbill . We saw them in Iceland too. They were mostly green there, but pretty amazing. I always laughed...

We have a broody. She has been sitting for about 5 days now. I knew where she was, but when I went to close in the chickens, she wasn't there. She wasn't on the roost either. Missing altogether!!! So, I came back inside and looked at my chart, thinking I had the wrong number of chickens in...
