With the BLRW's I'm 8/8 feather sexing at 3 or 4 days. Girls having 2 rows of feathers and males having only 1 tight tot the down. It doesn't work on all breeds and I haven't had any bantams hatch to see if it applies to them.
I took in a fecal sample and now I'm treating for roundworms. I'm out until March unless I get some from Trader Joes for a 4-H field day. Thinking I may set up a candleing booth for the kids.
I usually end up with more adults but that's OK to.
The dark girl is our climber. Lucky is the cuddler.
Love your bird sitting so calmly in your hand. We will be working on that with Lucky for 4-H events.
My little ones are learning how to do laundy. I've had really good luck brooding in the house and having them behave well when we need to take them to events.
The boy is not to sure about the golden ret., he comes right up to the glass and tries to stare her down it seems.
The one I had to help needed another day to cautch up. This is her the first day:
She just wanted ro sleep in the hot spot. She is now the chick in my avatar. I did dip my finger in the water and wet her beak the first day. She has now caught up with the other two chicks.
I just hatched my first eggs so others will have better information.
My first pip sat for hours also, not really making any progress. The second pip zipped around the egg and hatched before my first pip. Both chicks were out within five minutes.
One thing I will do differently next time...
The third pip tried and tried but no progress. I stepped in and freed it, no blood or unabsorbed yolk. There for a while I thought it was missing an eye, after much q-tip work there are two. It's in fluffing with the other two.
Candled the other three but didn't see anything and no pips...
Checked the 6 eggs that made it to lockdown at 6:00. Checked again at 7:30 and I have a pip. It's one of the eggs I wasn't sure about. I think the one next to it is rocking, could have been me shaking though.
