I have one lone egg that is taking it's sweet time....this egg is WAY bigger than the others so I guess baby had to grow longer...I candled it last night and it was moving and still had red veins. So...I am just gonna have to wait. All the rest are in the brooder and doing great. They hatched...
Was your chick brooded by a hen? Leave the chick and hen separate from the rest of the flock for a month until the chick is larger. I sectioned off an area where the others could see them but not get to them.
In your first batch, did they grow and fill the egg up? I watch for growth, they grow so fast it is easy to tell if they start lagging behind the rest.
I had one that I thought was maybe a blood-ring, but it was veins, it hatched. I am super careful, I smell a suspect egg and make notes about development. If the others keep growing and one lags behind like it stopped then it probably died. But if it keeps growing I keep it in the incubator...
How is everyone's hatch going? I am down to 9 eggs after my 7 day candling. The 6 shipped eggs were all clear. So I crack each one open, and yep nothing.
I have incubated both ways and both ways work. I bought a plastic egg tray that I cut to fit inside my Brinsea that I am incubating and hatching in. When I have shipped eggs with wonky aircells I hatch them in the tray upright.
Do you have another incubator to hatch in? If you set eggs on different days, they will hatch on different days...
I set eggs on the 6th and 7th, so when I reach day 18, I will remove the eggs set on the 6th and hatch them in another incubator. Because they will go into lock-down and hatch...
Look at these pictures and see if any are what your seeing.
