Y'all are lucky, the tractor supply in my area doesn't even do chick days (which might be a good thing as far as my impulse buying goes). They'll order POL pullets and that's it- production reds, Sexlinks, white leghorns and BR. And are they ever EXPENSIVE! I could buy already laying hens off...

Just thought I'd share this as well. This is the little frizzled Cochin I picked up yesterday. She doesn't look too bad in this pic, but her back is a bald scabby mess. So, she's enjoying some high protein gamebird feed. Hopefully she'll be fully dressed again relatively soon. Nikki

I had one pip at the wrong end too, first time that's ever happened to me. My last 2 eggs that died went thru lockdown and managed to get thru most of the hatching process on their own. Mine were alot further along than yours though (just a couple of days behind). Good luck this time! Nikki

Here's a pic of my 2 peeps :D I had 2 eggs left in the bator. One pipped, zipped and then died. Not sure what was up with that. I opened it and it looked healthy. One more egg left. Its pipped, so I'm gonna keep an eye on it in case it needs some help. Nikki

If the blood in the veins is gone go ahead and help. Just don't separate the umbilical from his bottom or the egg shell, it could cause him to bleed. Good luck! Nikki

I've got 3 chicks now!!! I've decided that when they dry off I'm going to give them to Tina, who's on broody duty! Its cold and I don't want her sitting and it saves me from brooding them in the house. Win-win! Nikki
