My newest babies...still have two in the hatcher that just pipped today. Hatched the three Cayuga cross lings and purchased the Pekin from our local Atwoods...the shipment arrived this morning. Changing to wood shavings tomorrow...now that they know where the food is located.

My trio is from eggs I purchased to hatch. None of my two exhibit the crest so perhaps the one hen carries the crest gene. No, the other hen Maggie does not have the lower hatch rate...although she is 50/50. I thought it might be from my inexperience with hatching ducks. So far none of hers...

The skull under the fluff feels normal. But this may explain why the hatch rate from the one hen that must carry the gene has a lower hatch rate...many dis. Does this mean the drake slso has the gene even thogh he doesnt have a crest?

These are the week old lings....the crested head fluffers are mixed in the huddle.... The 3 week old ducklings one not crested and the one possible...

Need some assistance....is this duckling crested? Not sure how since background is supposed to be Pekin and either Swedish or Cayuga. The head fluff feels like two tiny ears...duckling is three weeks old. There are two more babies with the same head fluff that are only one week old.

Do you mean six scoops of feed mixed with a scant scoop of scratch? I don't offer scratch to ducklings. I also don't feed fermented feed either Perhaps someone who does feed fermented feed will share. Ducks 8-9 weeks can eat game grower ration along with small treats of finely chopped...

Morris is the drake on the left and Maggie is the duck eating grass behind Mattie. We think they are Cayuga cross breed.

Had a hatcher full of chicks and these two little darlings from Morris and Maggie.... This one tried to pip in the narrow end of the egg...had to help it out. Morris and the girls headed to the garden and their tank.

@MandyJ. Yes, the ducks could come and go from their basket nest easily. I put the board steps for getting in the nest easier. The towel folded up inside helped them getting out.
