Thanks! Love your avatar! Reminds me of my 2 1/2 year old daughter always running around my yard in boots carrying her chickens!

I don't see the curly drake feather, but my White Pekins were 4 months old when the extra males were processed and none had the drake feathers yet. At this age when they make noise the girls will QUACK super loud. The boys will make very very quiet little quacks. Try picking them up or...

It's really hard to tell from that picture. Mine were that size long before the drake tail feather came in. Do you know how old they are? Girls will QUACK and boys will quack. By about 3 months it was very clear which were the girls as Pekins are some of the loudest ducks I've ever had.

Thanks! I didn't think of the Khaki Campbell because it looks so much different than the girl (though that's pretty common in ducks). I have 1 female KC right now so that will work out well.

Question: Does anyone have any experience with the Jumbo White Pekins? Do they still have the same demeanor as standard White Pekins. I just don't want them to be more like a Cornish cross type chicken then a heritage chicken as far as personality. We did broad breasted white turkeys once & I...

Oh, question, what breed of duck is this? When I first saw it I thought it was a Buff, but then other photos I've seen of Buff Drakes since didn't really look like him. I've only had ducks a few months now, so still learning. I went to my local flock swap like a month ago with some...

My ducks are enjoying the flash floods we keep getting with these storms.... the chickens, not so much!

When I was pricing out those big stock tubs I saw a non running hot tub on craigslist for $50, you haul, I really thought about getting it! If you built a little deck or something around it to ease getting in and out I wouldn't see why it wouldn't work. Definitely convenient with the drain. (DH...

I was starting to think it was just mine that didn't like nest boxes! We have ducks that are 4 months old & haven't started laying yet, but before them we bought a "laying" duck from someone a few months back. They said she was a year old, I have no idea. Anyway, it was a good 2 months...

My fawn & white runners looked just like that though as a baby as well. I actually thought they were Buffs because of that. But once they molted out they had the fawn & white coloring, so I'd say that one could be either. The other as everyone said, is a Rouen.

Question: For those who sell duck eggs to eat... Do you sell them by the dozen or half dozen and what is the going rate? I would assume it'd be slightly higher than chicken since you get less eggs per bird, they are larger, & it's not like you can go in the grocery store and buy them...

Hi Rancher! My husband is from outside Syracuse! I don't know the real answers to your questions, but I can give my opinion! A lot of hatcheries carry blue & black Swedish so that estimate sounds rather low to me, but I don't know anything about the numbers. 1. I can't speak for other people...

YES, big difference!!! We had a bit of a learning curve, but it went much faster than plucking individually. The feathers just come right out, quills and all, no pulling. Definitely do it outside, we made a bit of a mess. And it takes forever to heat the wax through (my husband had plucked half...

Okay thank you, I'll keep that in mind for the future. I'm on the NC thread & offered them up to other locals but no one was looking for more ducks. (To clarify, 10 or so of them were always supposed to be processed, it was just a matter of which ones.) We're getting ready to go out of town...

Like rehome all of them instead of processing? No. I have 15 total, all about 5 months old now. Plan was always to keep about 5, just the ones I really wanted to keep aren't going to feasible with how loud they are I did try to sell my favorite for the past 2 weeks to keep her from being...

Has anyone ever used wax to pluck a duck??? I was reading about it online, didn't know if it actually worked. I have a bunch to process today & I'm not looking forward to it. I'm so upset because I didn't realize how loud the Pekin girls were. They're my favorite that we have & super...

If anything, my chickens chase my ducks! I got mine from Ideal. They don't have as many breeds as some (I'd say like 10), but they only have a $25 min no bird minimum & their shipping charges are like $7!!! They have the best prices on all their birds that I've seen. Any that I haven't...

Also, mine are only 3 months old. Though HUGE and fully feathered. I believe they are all girls as they are LOUD and none have the curly drake tail feathers. When can I expect eggs from ducks? I have White Pekin, Runners, & Swedish.

Hi everyone! Fairly new to ducks. It's getting to be a pain to clean out their kiddie pool everyday, we were looking to put in a small pond without dropping a ton of money. I've read a bunch of articles on making one without a pump or filter and adding oxygenating plants and goldfish. The...
