My ducks and ducklings are loving the new "pond" in my yard created by torrential rains. Without the flock the flooded yard would be just an aggravation. Instead, the flooding has brought lots of entertainment.

Thanks. Two would be fine, but if you can, I would recommend at least 3. That way if something happens to one you will still have a bonded pair. ETA - If you fall in love with ducks like we have, you'll want more. So you may want to think about getting a drake for your girls. Then when you're...

I forgot to mention that it is difficult to brood chicks and ducklings together. Ducklings grow so much faster than chicks. We had ours together at first and lost a chick because a duckling crushed it. Ducklings are also much messier with their food and water and need a waterer that is deep...

We keep our ducks and chickens together in the same coop. After a brutal winter that had them confined quite a bit we made some changes to the coop for health and cleanliness. We added poop boards with Sweet PDZ (zeolite) and more ventilation. This keeps the chickens from pooping on the ducks...

I don't have experience with that. My best safety advice would be to have a covered run for them and let them out to free-range only when you are supervising. First get them used to you, home, food, treats, and coming to you when you call. I would start with a trio or more of day old ducklings...

Our ducks are trained to go into the coop at dark and lay eggs in nesting boxes. They like and follow a routine. When the ducks first went into the coop, we had them stay in there for a few days with their food and water. Just before dark we gave them a small healthy duck snack each night...

Ohhh, I hope they will both be okay! I use ACV in the water as well, it is really good for them. Hopefully, your poodle will learn to love the ducklings instead of nipping at them.

The recommended amount for niacin tab is 100mg/gal of water. Just crush the pill between 2 spoons and stir it in. I wonder if you could do both and give a little brewers yeast with the food as well? With the deficiency I might try it for a couple of days, but I'm no expert and have only ever...

Has anyone used a Sweet PDZ/sand mix on the floor of the coop for ducks? If so, how about in a frigid winter? I used DLM with pine shavings this last winter and it was a frozen slimy mess. I was constantly adding bedding which cost a fortune over the winter. Anyone have a better way?
