Been raising Svart Hona for 4 years, they are super chill, but be warned they’ll start flying soon and if you have a brooder without a top they’ll fly right out. Just a heads up from experience.
Fellow Svart Enthusiasts,
I've got a Svart Hona trio for sale if anyone is interested. Augusta County, VA.

All,
I've got up to 12 pure Svarthona chicks and 6 Swedish Bluebar x Svarthona (so blue or black with green eggs) hatching this weekend. I'm in Virgina. Local pickup only. PM me if you are interested.
I also have hatching eggs.
I had a Svart roo do literally the exact same thing. One day he just decided that he had it out for boots, dark colored boots specifically. It lasted about a week and then he stopped. We also had a broody hatch chicks at the same time the behavior started, so I thought he was either just...
See my post (#489) and a couple of others on page 17 of this thread. Svarthona tastes like chicken (surprise!), maybe a little gamey like all dark meat. I recommend curries or soup to start. It took my kids some getting used to.

Along the lines of standards, I have a hen that is rumpless or at least tailless. Has anyone else ever seen this in Svarthona?
I've heard of some GFF stock having woolly feathers, but this was new to me.

If the Greenfire Farms website is anything to go by, I'd say at a minimum: -All black, possibly some mulberry on face -Fibromelanistic -Feathers iridescent purple and green shimmer -Less gamefowl in body type than Ayam Cemani -Lays white to cream colored eggs -Roosters weigh 5-7 pounds...
I have three Svarthona cockerels at the moment and they range from incredibly friendly and relaxed to slightly flighty. The friendliest one I hatched and raised myself the flightier ones I got from a breeder, so it's hard to tell if it's nature or nurture. That said, they are just hitting the...
Hey everyone,
I posted this on the Virginia thread, but thought I'd post here in case anyone knows. I currently have my 3 chicks from Orchard Hill Poultry and am looking to get 3 more locally in VA/WV from another line for diversity in breeding.
Here are all the Svart Hona breeders I know...
