I was told they were from a Ewe Crazy Roo and GFF hens but I have my doubts. Both of my girls are broody and decided to give one chicks. She is doing pretty good with them so far.
Both of my boys turned out to be total jerks. One almost killed one of my hens. He went to freezer camp immediately after that. He had a lot of white feathering so hadn't planned on keeping him anyway. The other one was always good to the girls but attacked me. He went to freezer camp over the...
That's exactly what I did the 3rd or so time he did it. I never acted afraid of him. He just went after my boots. Didn't scare me. I kind of kicked him off but not too hard one of the times but the other day was able to nab him and I carried him around for a while. He hasn't done it again since...
Thanks @birdman55 I didn't think you were being mean. This is my first time with "svart honas". I got them as hatching eggs from someone local that claimed her roo is from Ewe Crazy and the hens from GFF.
My 22 week old svart boy has decided he doesn't like my boots and has been attacking them for the last couple of days. I thought svarts were supposed to be kind and gentle. The two girls I have are sweeties. I had another cockerel that went to freezer camp a couple of weeks ago because he...
Are you talking about mulberry combs showed up in the females at 6 months or the males too? The females combs and wattles are still pretty small so wouldn't be surprised if mulberry shows up later on in them.
Looks like one of my boys has some mulberry wattles. No mulberry on his comb though. I have another boy that is so far all black and another one with lots of colored feathers. The two girls are all black still. They turned 19 weeks old over the weekend.
Yes I got them from someone who lives in Gig Harbor but she is not shipping eggs or chicks. I think you have to be NPIP certified to ship and don't think she is. Cedar Crest Farm ships eggs but I did not have much luck with shipped eggs. They are in Ohio.
So much for thinking I had 1 boy and 4 girls. At 12 weeks it's looking more like 3 boys and 2 girls. For some reason I had one boy (the one with silver leakage) that really matured faster than the others which made me think I only had 1. I was told they are a Ewe Crazy Roo crossed with GFF hens.
Here's my 5 week old boy. He's starting to get some white lacing around the neck. Is that unusual? Wondering if it will grow out. None of the girls have any white like that. Everything else on him is black, all toes and toe nails. Had a couple girls with some white toe tips.
I couldn't tell on mine till they were about 2-3 weeks old. I think I have 1 out of 5 being a boy. He is much bigger than the others and comb is growing much faster. They are 5 weeks old now.
At least one of my five svart hona kids is a boy. This one was obvious at about 2 weeks old. He's now 4 weeks old and got his first look at the great outdoors.
Hatched out some local svart hona eggs. Had to drive a couple hours to pick them up. Out of the 10 eggs, 6 ended up hatching but one didn't make it. Still much better odds than the shipped hatching eggs I got earlier this year where only 1 hatched. They hatched over the weekend and have been...
I've been reading up on this breed and came across this thread. I was lucky to win 4 hatching eggs on instagram and will be starting the hatch in a couple of weeks along with some other breeds, probably isbar, orps and ameraucanas. I hope the eggs arrive safely and I have a good hatch. It's an...
